SRT-4 All the way. No doubt. Also, this should go into the car comparisons forum. But really, it's no contest on which would be better. SRT-4. How much of a budget are you dealing with anyway? L8...

Well it all depends. The Srt-4 is the fastest and has the best engine to build on. It can handle tons of boost due to forged internals. So if your a daily driver that likes speend and don mind spending 16k then srt-4 is for you.
The SVT focus has a better suspension. Its will out corner the srt-4 by quite a bit. Its built for auto x. if thats your thing get yourself into the focus. You will be racing with cars in the same class as you so speed wont matter as much as driver skill and suspension.
Speed and tunability= Srt-4
Corner carver and cheap= Focus Svt
you decide.
I have an Srt-4 and love it. One of the faster cars on the road. You can allways surprise the hell outa someone with that car. Driven an Srt-4 u wont get much respect. Alot of the Srt-4 owners believe they are gods gift to earth, because of that no one likes srt-4s. I was able to get mine out the door for 18k it. It was a left over 2004 that had been sitten on the lot. I got it with 15 miles on it, viper seats, kicken (or kicker cant remeber) sterio upgrade and a moon roof. I would suggest you buy a gently used 04-05 srt-4. they have 15 more horses and Limited slip. Depending on where you live you can find a used one for 15-18k. Good luck and watch out for Srt-4's that have been beat the hell out of. Mainly under 24 year olds drive these things and they drive em hard.

Good comparison there chexmixa between the two. I'd go with the SRT-4 myself since I'm a straight line guy.
I hear though in either '07 or '08 SVT is coming out with their own turbo Focus that is going to lock horns with the SRT-4. Should be an interesting battle.

Great, lol someone else who is gunna try to de-thrown the Srt-4 from its fastest car under 20 grand thrown. There is allways the new kid on the block looken to gun me down. O well i'm happy ford is at least maken an effort. But i still think me Skittle will be faster  I would be willen to bet they supa charge the ford just like all the other new guys. From what lil i know about ford i don't think they have too many turbo cars on the market in the past or present. Only one i can think of is the ford probe and the focus RS. I think if they took that motor that is in the mazda speed 6 (2.3L turbo 260 hp) and put that in a fwd focus it would SCREAM!!! lol that will def be a contender.

well i really like the way those focuses look... and if you dont have a budget you could buy a turbo and slap it on there and youd be pretty darn fast. idk how fast tho but i imagine at 10psi youd probably be pushing more power than a SRT-4. plus they got a 6 speed... i wish they just sold the focus RS over here... thats bullshit, that thing puts down like the same power as a SRT-4. same deal like how in australia how fords family car over there is 350hp... turbocharged inline 6.

If they had the focus RS over here in the states i would be all over that. A turboed all wheel drive inline 2.0L. I would kill to own that car, of course i would want a rally spec RS 300hp 6 speed awd.

SRT-4 easily. Performance wise is way better and its no slouch in handling, especially if you get the Mopar suspension upgrades. But they aren't the fastest car under 20k im pretty sure, cause the price has gone up

I'm pretty sure it must of been a v6. They are pricing the New GT's at at least 28k base invoice is 25k
Or it was an older model gt like 99-04, the Srt-4 is faster then those stock for stock.
Go ahead and accept defeat i know i can claim fastest car under 20. I can also claim fastest car under 25 brand new. for the 2003-2005 model cars.

Now your speaken my language. i wouldn't suggest an eclipse GT its kind of hard to mod those things out. I know there is someone turboing his on these board that should make it scream but you will have to ask him about it.
Ok now for cars under 16k that are pretty fast/quick
Scion tc
99-04 Mustang GT
98-02 Camero Z28
03-04 Srt-4
Hundei tiburon v6 6 speed 03-05
Those are all cars you can find in good condition and are quick/fast as is
Cars that need a lil work but can be made fast, you can normally find em for CHEAP and can dump alot o money in em
89-93 Foxbody 5.0 (i have no clue what mods work with these cars i am the wrong person to ask)
92-95 Honda Civic 5 speed Jdm motor swap in there preferable DOHC V-tec motor and you will start to see some speed this car has endless posibilities
91ish Nissan Sentra 5 speed, Sr20det swap in there
240sx Sr20det
200sx Sr20det
early 90s 4 cylinder nissan truck Sr20det
just about any nissan from the early to mid 90s
There are endless possibilties when you have that much to spend There are tons of threads on this forum with much more information.

God damn. Even if I give SRT-4s respect and we all know how hard it is for me to give other cars respect. If you wanna get your shit beat all day and do so in a girls car, by all means get an eclipse GT. If you wanna run mid/low 13s all day..get a fucking LS1. If you wanna buy a fast, economical, somewhat decent looking, affordable, everyday use car..then get an SRT-4.

 That's me. lol
It's semi hard to mod an eclipse GT as there are not a lot of support out for it yet.
Just as a comparison to help you decide pricewise I bought my 2000 GT with 24XXX miles on it for $9500. The parts I have bought relating directly to the turbocharger kit itself have run me about
2000-2500 bucks. Then for installation and tuning inlcuding having pipes made up for me I figure I'll be looking at around a grand to 1500 for that. So total cost is in the ball park of $13000 for the car and the turbocharger kit itself.
It would probably suit you better to just get the SRT-4 because it would be a hell of a lot easeir to mod, warranty stays intact with mopar stage upgrades, plus I'm sure it handles better due to it being lighter. The eclipse is a pretty fat pig at around 3000 lbs.
EDIT: Another reason not to go with an eclipse GT is everyone and their brother hates on it like some retarded stepchild. Hardly anybody likes this car as just demostrated by dampachi.

Impreza RS puts out around 150-160 bhp. They're slow. Cos you gotta consider the weight and power loss of the AWD system. Ok, fine fine, they're not slow, but a good 3 seconds slower than a WRX from 0-60 which puts it to 8-9second mark (which is slow to some of these hard core nuts on this board:grinno:)
If you want to tune the car, don't go RS. It's a SOHC and hence crap at handling boost. However, it does has a similar suspension set up as a WRX and will go through corners almost as well.
So conclusion is WRX>V6 stang>2.5RS

hmmmmm i see alot of newbies in this forum. alright lets just get straight to the point.
a WRX is a mustang GT fighter. they both run 14.1 in teh 1/4 mile. they both do 0-60 in in mid 5 second range.
you want a slower car for cheaper?
the v6 stang will shit all over a 2.5 RS impreza. 2.5 RS impreza can't even get a proper AWD launch. it would just bog off the line because i has no power ( only 160hp ) the 190hp stang will shit all over that. but will get owned by alot of other decently quick cars too. it can hang and beat some honda's. but no body buys a stang to hang and just barely beat honda's.
so in other words if you want a quick car right out of the box. get the WRX. it may only maked 220hp but it puts every damn hp to good use . thats why it can run a 14.1 in the 1/4. that time is around the same speed as a 287hp 350Z, a 260hp mustang GT, a 240hp S2000. a 250hp ( true hp ) SRT-4.
how ever the 220hp and AWD is a handicap from a roll. a RSX type S will be able to hang with you on the highway. a WRX is only deadly from a stop. but it can still do decent damage ont he highway. the 2.5 RS is just pure slowness in every way unless you boost it or put nitrous on it to make up for the lack of hp.

ok scion TC's are not fast out of the box. A mid to low 16 second car is not fast. Mustang GT's are not fast out of the box either. Ive never lost to one, ive never beaten one either, but with my new mods im sure ill make lunch with them. Damapchi is only what, 14.6. The SRT4 is a fast car, but FWD with that kind of power isnt the most ideal car. THE srt4 is rated at 230HP i think, im about 215HP and i cant go WOT on a street laucnh cause ill spin to much. And its not that fun at all in the rain or snow.

A TC is not a mid low 16 sec car
Its a Mid Low 15 sec car out of the box, i had one and used to take it to the track.
The Srt-4 is rated at 230 hp from the factory but its more like 250 to the crank. Srt-4s puts down roughly 225-230 to the wheels. I haven't ran at the track yet with her yet but she should run 14.1-14-4. Thats what most people average at my local track in a stock Srt-4. If you were to lower your tire pressure to 22psi, 50 degrees ferenhieght(sp?), and get a near perfect 60 ft (round 2.2 ish) you would run a 13.8.
Just don't get a mustang v6 at all. They are terrible, and increadibly expensive/no point in making them fast. At least with a Subaru RS you get a seksy 2door and awd. The Engine they have in there can handle boost very well but mods are few and far between.

Mustang GT's i would say are pretty fast out of the box. Especially the new ones that get 13's. Tc's are quick for the price, and they actually look pretty good, a big upgrade from their refrigerator sibling.

Good comparison there chexmixa between the two. I'd go with the SRT-4 myself since I'm a straight line guy.
I hear though in either '07 or '08 SVT is coming out with their own turbo Focus that is going to lock horns with the SRT-4. Should be an interesting battle.
Ford has had a turbo focus since 2002 sold in Europe it is called the Focus RS. With 220hp (and I don't think Ford Europe is one to downplay) it is a bit lower then the SRT-4. But like the Dodge it has a front LSD, a special Quaufe ATB (http://www.quaifeamerica.com/differentials/diffs.htm). This makes it a great handling car for racing but I don't know if it is the combination of their suspension setup or something but at least from a review on BBC Top Gear, it makes it unruly to drive with a whole lot of torque steer. So with even a choice of comparing the SRT-4 to the RS the RS might be great to race but when it comes to straightline performance and daily driving the SRT-4 is better, even though I heard that the SRT-4 has handling capabilities that are equal to an RX-7, but then again that can be stretching it who knows. However, I heard about a Cosworth Focus coming out powered by the same engine and transmission that is in the Mazdaspeed6. However the US is not able to get either of these Focuses because Ford is not selling their new Focus platform here, in fact Ford is using the same platform (http://autoblog.com/entry/8659102677833180/#comments) same platform through 2007. So unless Ford lets their SVT build their own turbocharged Focus we probably won't see one here. This is an exact repeat of what Ford did with the Escort, they professed and called it a global platform but to them it doesn't seem the USA is a part of the rest of their world. It is sort of funny since in contrast in 1999 when Ford talked about the Focus the whole point behind was to have a platform that didn't differentiate between the nations, meaning the US and the rest of the world.

speaking of impreza 2.5rs, a guy down the street from me's got one with a turbo, probably some t04 variant, i cant remember. he destroys STi's and evolutions like nothing, even ls1s are nothing to him.
If it's destroying STi's then it's not the original 2.5RS engine. It's either a WRX with a front mount conversion with a non scoop bonnet and rebadged. Or he did an engine swap and put a WRX or more likely EJ25T STi engine in it.
Cos the original 2.5RS motor is SOHC and is weak and can handle a max of 8psi at safe levels. This would give a max of what? 80? Which puts it to 240 at the crank maxmimum. That is 20hp or so short of an STi.
But the non hood scooped imprezas with a FMIC are real nice. Hopefully if funds go well, my car will turn into one.

20 crank hp short of a real STi? nooo a STi makes a underated 300hp true output is 260awhp which is around 320ish crank hp. so the 2.5 RS is still 80 crank hp short. minus the short ratio 6 speed that the sti has.

oh ok. I didn't know the STi was one of the underrated cars. Learn something every day. I was just going by manufacture quotes converted roughly from kW.

Out of the two I like the Focus, not a fan of the SRT-4 styling although in terms of straight line performance it rips the Focus a new one, but for the money an F-body or Mustang would be a good alternative.

Yeah i agree the styling isnt that great, or even that good, but i dont like the styling on the focus either, so i gotta go with the performance

Actually, you are incorrect regarding Mustang GT pricing. A base Mustang GT stickers for $25,570, the invoice for that car would be $23,720. And before you or somebody else asks you can actually find them like that as the car is pretty well optioned even in base trim. Well, you can find one as easily as you can find any new Mustang GT on a lot that is. These things sell fast.
Techincally you can buy this car for under 25k, but it ain't easy as demand is ridiculous and dealers are not inclined to discount.
