Changing Wheel and Tire size

I'm going to change to a bigger tire and wheel nothing huge just a little bit bigger. Someone told me when you do this it will mess up your transmission and engine will be running difrent and of course the speedometer would be messed up, my question is can they reprogram the computer to allow for the bigger tires on an 88 silverado thanks for the help

Most power programmers allow you to adjust for bigger tires. I wouldn't worry about it though. All it will mess up is your speedo and probably not very much unless you go from 27" tires to 35" tires.

how big are you talking? that makes a difference unless you go to 35's or bigger then it depends on what you do. do you mud? rock? or city drive

You're in luck with your '88, I think this is one of the last years for the mechanical speedometer. A gear change for a few bucks will correct your indicated speed.

I have a '90 which I think is the first year for the %$&#@! electronic speedo. The only way to alter its reading is to change a printed circuit in the dash which costs well over $100 for the part alone!

I just picked up a 88 Stepside 350 4x4 with 33 in Tires. Havent had any experience with that big of tire for everyday driving. I know it wouldnt tow at all at speeds over 40 mph. Dont know if I should stay with these or go back to a stock tire? Will be using for Towing.
