ct20b turbo

i just bought a ct20b turbo with 12,000 miles on it and it is in great condition. should i put an external wastegate on it? can i put it on now with out an upgraded i/c and just run low boost? answers would help. also how do i go about gettin it put on? i want to do it myself but i lack tools and i have the time to do it and not much engine sence when it comes to working cars. i know alot just not a whole lot.
