grinding noise on acceleration

I have a 1993 S-10 4.3 L V-6 with 160,000 miles on it. When I start my truck in the morning & I start to accelerate, there's a grinding noise that comes from the hood. It doesn't always do this, though. When I notice it, I simply turn off the engine & then restart it & it goes away. It only seems to do it in the morning or after the truck has been sitting there. It doesn't do it when it idles.
I know that my muffler needs to be changed...could this be the issue? I really doubt it considering it seems like it's coming from under the hood. Any ideas?

I wonder if it could possibly be the cooling fan clutch - sometimes they'll be noisy first thing in the morning before they "get moving" for a few minutes so to speak.
It's a far fetched possibility though.
