probly been asked before. but do i REALLY HAVE TO EITHER TAKE OUT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD OR TAKE OFF THE AXLE TO GET THE ALTERNATOR OUT? i just got the goddamn idle air control valve installed and what happens next? the goddamn alternator is bad. goddamnit. if i didnt love honda so much i woulda sold my car and gota dsm.

Shift linkage. If you take one of the shift linkage bars loose then it will come out fine but thats w/ a sohc motor that i have dealt with. I am not sure w/ a dohc engine

umm...nah . i dun think so. the interfering peices are the intake manifold, the alternator bracket, the cradle, and the driver side axle. this is all on a four speed honda civic hatch btw.(four speed = dual point injection if that really matters.)

oh well, i had to take the shift linkage loose on my d15 vtec in my 89 hf to get the alternator to clear to where i could get it in position to install. Maybe different on your motor. If you take the axel out then put a drip pan under the tranny where the axel comes out or you'll make a mess. I made a mess twice and got an oil bath once before i figured that i might as well drain the fluid first.

in my 88 dx with the dual point i had to change mine and didnt take anything out or off the motor...i just unbolted the alternator and then manuvered it under the intake manifold and the out through the top of the passenger side and went back throug the same way.

i just unbolted the master cylinder and it slid out just fine..........

ok relax....if you have the DX manifold, the alternator can be routed under the manifold to the other side, just work around the hoses. If you have the MPFI manifold, just take off the master cylinder. Its not that hard..

as i've mentioned before, there is just enough space to squeeze the alternator out and in from above or below. you have to turn it at just the right angle and be patient, but the whole process took very little time for me. all i really took off my car was my left front wheel.
