I've been trying to figure out a way to make the rear wiper on my 2002 Xterra to be intermittent. Apparently this is something that was changed for the 2002 model as previous years seem to be on a 10 second delay and mine is just constant.

Do you have a wiring diagram to compare to find out what the difference is? I already tried changing out the switch for one in a 2000 and it didn't make any difference. The dealer tells me the wiring harness is different and that it is not possible to make the rear wiper on a 2002 intermittent. I hope they're wrong.

Thanks in advance,

The dealer may tell you there is no way to make the current wiper connection intermittant as compared to previous years of Xterra's, but that statement does not prevent you from modifying the present circuit to be interrmitantable....

100 years ago I had some Ford product as my first mode of motorized travel. It didn't have an intermittant wiper option either for the front or rear wiper(s).

I went to K-mart and bought one of those cheap-ass addon delay wiper devices - one that had a rotary control to increase or decrease the delay time.

I spliced two devices into the wiper switch wiring. One for the front controls and one for the rear wiper control.

I was able to break the guts of the addon control boxes out of the cheapass plastic shells they were encased in and mount them behind the dash panel so only the rotary dial was displayed. It was pretty easy for a 16 year old kid, I wouldn't expect you to have any trouble.

Somewhere around the security LED would be a good place to repeat the same procedure.

Gee I need to read this board more! Sorry for the delay in answering ut as everyone knows I just don't have a lot of time to come here :( Anyway SnoDog is correct ANY system can be made intermittent! However these are imports and unlike most domestic vehicles which switch hot to make something work imports switch ground! This means that unless the delay device is designed to do this is must be modified. I modified a unit from JC Whitney to work in my 1991 Pathfinder but it was a pain in the a$$! If someone has access to the wiring diagrams of the 2002 I could figure it out. Anyone have these yet?

This is part of the reason I've never bothered to tie my power window circuit in to be live when the interior lights are on. This way I would have temporary retained power after I shut down: the lights stay on 30 seconds after the key is removed, but the interior lights are a ground-operated circuit.
Yes, I know, the '01+ models got this feature...
