Transmission Problems

My 1997 mercury Villager is having transmission problems. When you first start out its winds up to 4000+ RPM before shifting and goes into 3rd gear skipping second. I will feather the pedal to help it shift but it will not do second gear. Any thoughts on what I need to do.

I know you dont want to hear this but...... it sounds like its time for a new transmission. Had the same thing happen on one of my trucks before.

Check your fluids first they may be low.
