I bought a 1993 S10 extended cab pickup. When I turned on the radio all I got was static. (Radio in vehicle has power button on the front panel). I got another OEM radio from the junk yard, this one does not have the power switch on the front, you turn one of the dial to turn it on. This radio plays fine, but will not keep the time or channels when you turn it off. I then got another radio from the junk yard (power switch on front) put it in and all I got was static again.
Can anyone help, or do you have any ideas?

I suspect the second radio has a separate two wire connector that has a full time power source connected to one of those wires, would be an older model radio. The other two sure sound like just bad tuners, no reason why the one would work and two would not if the antenna were bad.

Be sure your wiring has not been hacked on by previous owner. I bought my 93 (S10 Blazer) a year ago and it had a bad(and wrong) radio in it. Discovered that one of the plugs required to power the right one had been cut and taped, and other one was replaced with a POS that was not right for correct radio. Had to take matching plugs out of an old car and solder in. If your plugs and wiring are intact, should be a matter of getting proper or working radio. Mine came out of a 89 Buick, works perfectly. Service manual calls for UT5, UM7, UM6, UX1,or UIC radios as original equipment, but others should certainly work. Also, I looked up possible causes of memory failure and book mentions an orange wire that has an inline fuse that powers memory. Possible it is blown. Does not say where it is, but assume it's under the dash.
