Well I bought a K&N filter and I have to say im actually suprised. I expected unnoticeable differences unless it was to be used with other devices (CIA, Headers, cat back). Its not huge of course but a bit more reactive off the line. Next up is CIA, I was thinking SLP unless anyone else has any suggestions

SLP or K&N... but they come with the filter i do believe....

cai's usually come w/ their own filters and its a different style than the stock replacement, i'm afriad u may have wasted ur money getting the filter ahead of time if ur planning on a cai...

So is the cai from slp worth the amount of money? Has anyone bought one? Also drvngstorm, what do you think about that slp cai on a third gen tpi?

No, its not a waste, I checked the SLP intake and it uses the stock or a K&N Panel filter for my particular year... otherwise I would be pissed
Here is the actual installation for my car if I bought SLP CAI

its supposed to be good for 15-20hp and it cost under 200 so i think its a pretty good deal... i personally don't know tho i have an lt1 not a tpi, and b4 the lt1 i had a tbi that i never modded...

I never really understood the point of aftermarket CAI on our cars. I just cut out the filter tray and the shroud underneath it. I seems to be doing pretty much the same thing. Maybe this is just the redneck way of doing it but c'mon, I do own Camaro.

well the one im getting isnt the tube with the cone, its kind of a RAM air type deal or something, I wont really understand it untill I get it probably (another redneck thing)... I guess it just just shoves an extension right up in the radiators face, or something to that effect... im probably sounding retarded

OK heres whats confusing everyone: 93-97 has the "to the side" "cone" style intake. 98-02 has the lid right in front of the throttle body sucking in air from directly below it, under the car.

air lids are cool as hell, i like how they look. and if u have a ss u wouldnt have to worry about cold air because your hood is functional....well at high speeds it does the same thing. i myself didnt like the theory of the cones just hanging down catching air, i made a scoop to catch the air and run it into the cones. i really dont buy the air will get up there crap, im sure directing it to the intake will make it work better

Well that basically the one im buying... so im happy

i found buying the cool air intake system a waste of money to be honest. I built mine and it does the same thing. Needs to be combined with some duals and maybe a performance chip to make any real big difference probablly though.

well to be honest alot of things we buy for our cars u make at home yourself...cold air intakes, sub frame connectors, hell ive even heard of people building turbo's. either way u go about it the things work pretty good. some may wanna save a buck and make it at home, some folks are like me and like the label or brand so u pay the extra dollar, hell i could get a loudmouth exhaust that works great, but i will pay the extra 400bucks to get the borla, thats just me. we all do it from time to time. do u get nike or do u go to wally world and get hike?? same thing, u just pay for the name most of the time.

hell i did the homemade thing, i wired a blowdryer to my battery and taped it down so it would go into the intake an i have it set for cold when ill turn in on befor i start the car, gives it a lil more kick than without it! :eek7:

lol, what the hell is wally world? i agree with you on this one tho, they are pretty much all the same, just find the cheaper one for the better deal.
ps, if you are still in high school you better get nike unless you like getting beat up / made fun of.
