Check Engine Light 97 Concorde LX

I have a 97 Concorde LX 3.5L with 54,000 miles. My wife drove it since November. Since then the Cruise Control doesn't work. "CRUISE" lights up on the dash, but when you hit ACCEL or RESUME, nothing happens.

The drivers window doesn't close properly. The front of the window doesn't keep level with the back when it's about an inch from the top and the back of the window pops out as it is about to close.... at a very sharp angle. I tried to take the door panel off... I got the back part off, but couldn't figure out how to remove the front of the door panel. Any suggestions?

The major question.... the car has been idling really rough when stopped at lights. I bought some Gumout Cleaner and put it in the tank. After about 10 miles the CHECK ENGINE light came on. The car is running the exactly same, even the rough idle is still there. I drove over a 100 miles today without a problem. Did the Gumout do something to some sensor? Do I really have to worry? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

first off, you have VERY low miles, and since your car is 8 years old, there is a chance that the seals in your fuel injectors are leaking thus causing the rough idle. Also, check your plugs, make sure they're gapped properly. When you get a chance, look at your throttle body, check for any carbon that might be gunked up in it that could cause a hesitation and/or rough idle as well. To clean that, go to your local auto part store and get some carb cleaner, that'll clean it up easily.

:grinyes:
You should also get that code checked out while you are at the parts store just to see what the light is on for. Also if you are up to it, you could use som 2+2 and clean out your egr tube, for some extra clean. As far as addatives, the thing that works for me the best is Chevron Techron. That cleared up a ping in my mazda and I just poured some in my 2.7 concord with 118,022 on it. Runs like a dream.

Same thing happened on my 94 LHS. "Light's on but nobodys home!"

Pull the vacuum hose from the cruise control Servo while the engine is running to see if there is vacuum at the hose itself.

If yes the servo may be bad and need replaced (not a big job and low cost if you find one in a wrecking yard that isn't cut).

If no vacuum is present, there is a T connection just downstream from the servo, one direction goes toward the engine and runs behind the block and across to the Manifold Tuning Valve Solenoid on the passenger side shock tower, the other direction runs towards the right fender and then forward to the front under the battery tray, there will also be a smaller sized line running with it. Under the battery tray bolted to the subframe is a Vacuum Resorvior (you may need to remove the battery and tray to get to it) where there are two connections, The larger one is the suply line to the Cruise Solenoid / MTV Solenoid and the smaller one doubles back to the drivers side of the engine and connects to a vacuum fitting on the Intake Plenum. Check for broken or split tubing in the route from Cruise Solenoid to the Resorvior, Reservoir to Engine, and from the Cruise Solenoid to the MTV Solenoid. If any were found and fixed you should now have vacuum at the servo and the cruise should work again, it might get rid of some of the roughness at idle from a possible vacuum leak as well as the MTV is now working again and the high RPM power should improve.

another area of concern for 93-97 3.5's. Engine Idle roughness is a possible Intake Manifold leak at the head or intake plenum, you can use carb cleaner with the extension tube to find out by lightly spraying around the plenum mating serface and the manfold to head areas, if the idle smooths or stumbles you got a leak and the Intake gasket needs replaced. It's at about the right mileage for that to happen too.

another possibility to the cruise control problem, your ACCEL/RESUME switch might be bad, happened to me on my '02 Intrepid.

Okay, the CHECK ENGINE light was on because the 5th cylinder was misfiring. The Intake manifold gasket was leaking oil into the spark plugs. The gaskets were replaced and a tune-up was done. After a few hundred dollars.... No more CHECK ENGINE light.

CHECK ENGINE came back... took it to the shop again and they replaced a wire (don't know which one because my wife picked up the car). CHECK ENGINE was on again the next morning......

trying to keep this thread alive. I have a eerily similar problem with my 2000 2.7L. I've replaced spark plug, coil and fuel injector. I through in the towel and took it to a dealer. They diagnosed poor compression in cylinder #5, blaming a faulty valve or head gasket.

Too bad 2000concorde, that could be it. The valves are a little funky on the 2.7. After idleing for a little while, when I hit the gas, I get this big cloud of smoke from my rear. Buddy of mines said the vavle seals leak at idle a let oil out into the chambers and out the back

yOU NEED A TO GET YOURSELF A DOOR TRIM REMOVING TOOL. THE STUDS ARE A BITCH TO GET OUT WITHOUT IT. MAKES THE JOB VERY EASY. ITS POSSIBLE TO GET THE PANEL OFF WITHOUT IT BUT YOU RISK DESTROYING THE WHITE STUDS HOLDING THE DOOR ON.
