redline on my gs-r is 8000 rpm and it seems like the rev limiter kicks in at about 8400 give or take a couple hundred (usually if I hit it, i'm being careless and not payiong attention, so that why i don't know exactly)

You can send in your ECU to JET and they will chip it for you. It is a couple hundred bucks, plus downtime.

I certainly hope you have done the proper modifications to your LS before you go raising the redline other wise you will be short one engine.
The Engine is set to redline at 6800 because that is a safe number to rev to in a stock LS motor, and besides the engine probly doesn't make power higher up than that anyway, so reving that high would just be wasting time that you could be in the power band.
Now if you have upgraded the valvetrain and the rods/pistons then by all means rev away.
