I have a 96 blazer that my wife drives. It quit running in the road and would not start back. I had to get it towed and the guy that towed it said he could fix it, but after a week and a half I do not think he can. She said it strarted jerking and then quit. Would not start back. Mechanic said it was not firing, changed something in the distributor and got it to fire but would not start. Sounded like it was puking up gas. Then he said it was probably out of time. Checked it and said it was 180 out. Set it back and tried to crank and he said it went out 180 again and then again. Timing chain and gears are fine. He has removed the cover and checked them. I am not sure he knows what he is doing. Any suggestions?

Get your car out of there quick.
This guy does not know what he is doing.
Distributors do not constantly jump out 180 like that.
Was the fuel pressure tested?

Was getting fuel but did not actually test pressure that I know of.

That should have been the first thing checked.
Honestly, that mechanic sounds like a moron.
Get the fuel pressure checked ASAP before he screws something up.
Key on, Engine off.

Agreed.... NO WAY IN HELL could the dist jump 180 out unless the timing gears were toothless. That said, no that he's turned a locked distrubutor, he could easily be 1 tooth off in either direction which will cause the truck not to start. Fuel pressure should have been checked, then the fuel pulsator should have been metered... I hope to hell you don't pay this guy a dime.

Hello
Had the same problem on my -97, the exact same problem....
Everything works, Fuel pump "buzzez",startmotor runs, ignition works.
It was the ignition switch, try to "jerk" the key around and then start.
Sometimes it works sometimes not.

I am going to move it somewhere else tommorrow. The only thing I might pay this guy is the tow bill, that is if he will take it somewhere else for me.
