Power steering leak

I have a 91 XJ sport 4.0 all of a soden the power steering started leaking between the pump and the resivour. I cannot see any defects There is an adjustment bolt on the drivers side, would this have anything to do with it???? any help/ ideas are greatly appreciated

Sounds like the seal between pum and tank is bad, I have never heard :disappoin of being able to replace just the seal w/o replacing pump

you actually can replace the seal,its an o-ring but its kind of a hassle.you might be better off with a rebuilt pump

What is involved in a pump/reservoir replacement? I have reman. assy. and was told that pulley needs to be removed and placed on replacement unit, but can't see how to remove drive belt ...

That adjustment bolt is for the serpentine belt. You'll need to loosen several bolts on the front and back of the PS pump and then back off the adjuster. This will loosen the belt and allow you to slip it off the pulley.

There are two bolts on the front and I belive one on the bottom. On the driver side there is a bolt (adjustment bolt) lossen the lock nut and back that bolt out. I did mine last weekend, only took about and hour :smokin:

Do yourself a favor and drop twenty bucks and get a Chilton's (preferred) or a Haynes service manual. The XJ is a little different than most other vehicles with a serpentine belt. You *will* need a special puller/installer for the power steering pump pulley. If you have an AutoZone parts store nearby, they have these tools to loan for free; you leave a credit card imprint and get it back when your return the tool.
