1995 Mercury Villager 125K.
When braking there is a knocking noise which reduces in speed as the car slows down. I thought this might be the rotors. I replaced them and the pads (they were pretty worn) but the knocking still occurs. I am thinking it might be the CV joint. Any help given would be greatly appreciated.

all your lugs tight? when i was a teen, i had the same noise on my 76 ford elite. turned out when i changed a flat i didnt tighten the lugs all the way. so when braking the tire would make a load knocking.

P, try braking with the emergency brake only to make sure the noise is coming from the front, and have you inspected the rears? Also, check clearance issues as the slow down might be causing something to swing against your driveshaft, wheel, etc. G luck!

Your rotors may be glazed and or you lower caliper bolt may be missing or loose.
