My service engine light soon is on, and what i have noticed with my car is that the gas mileage has dropped significantly since ive bought it which leads me to think that its fuel related... i haven't changed the fuel filter since ive bought it about 8 months ago. Also when i accelerate threw each gear it almost cutts out kinda chuggs (Hard to explain) If anyone has changed out the fuel filters or knows how to do it on the 93-97 Z28's the help would greatly be appreciated or if it even sounds like thats the problem. thanks again all

first of all run the car for codes and see what you are dealing with

it could also be your spark plugs and wires....if they are old would cause it to be slugish on acceleration.....IE if they are not firing right...fuel...cylinders..etc etc you get the idea...but your filter is like 10 bucks and plugs and wires depend on how much your willing to spend. I have nology wires and beru plugs....about 400 bucks.....anyway i believe its a 10mm or 12mm wrench...loosen the bolt and it pops off, make sure you disconnect the battery due to the fuel that is going to come out..pop the new one on..tighten and vaula your done.

ok well... i installed a new fuel filter today and the problem is still here, i was thinking what else it could be and thought of the o2 sensors or distibuter? i just replaced the spark plugs about 2 months ago so thats not the problem... if anyone has any other ideas what it might be i would appreciate the feed back. Oh and unfortuantly autozones in my area only have the right connector for the 96+ camaros for the engine codes

did you also change the wires?....my problem came from not changing them...only the plugs

also if your getting hesitation or stumble during acceleration it could be incorrect ignition timing; iginition system not operating properly; dirty or clogged fuel injectors; low fuel pressure. Check for proper operation of the fuel pump and for restriction in the fuel filter and lines....most of these would also affect your fuel comsumption....hope this helps

i didn't change the wires when i changes my plugs i checked them out at the time and they looked fine... so basically what i decided to do is get new o2 sensors next, then distributer cuz im pretty sure i need that and go from there... for some reason i think it might be a fuel injector problem if it is, has anyone changed theres out? and if so did u go with bigger injectors, cuz if i have to replace mine i was thinking of going with bigger ones... would i benefit hp wise?

how did you check them? and most people replace plugs and wires at the same time..

True, its always good to change the wires when you change the plugs, I would go with doing that, right now.

well i guess i just briefly looked at them... i was just impatient not to change them at the sametime since it was so hard to change the plugs... well i'll go ahead and do the other stuff i plan to do and if the problem is still there i'll add the new wires to my list lol... i know i could just take my car to a shop and have them find exactly what the problem is so i can fix it but for me its fun finding out on my own and saving a buck plus all the stuff im doing is basic maintenance that needs to be done anyway. Really appreciate the feed back guys, ur extremely helpful

if you didnt change your wires ......CHANGE THEM....thats is most likely your problem. ive owned 2 3rd gen and 4 4th gen a 3.4 3.8, and 2 5.7 ls1 then same thing happened to me and I spent a sh#$ load of money on everything but new wires and nothing worked, till that was suggested to me....i went to the store spent like 15, 20 bucks and the problem was gone.....just because the wires look ok it doesnt mean they are....Replace them....its cheaper, easier, and worth all the headache your going through

ur right sbackof that is next definetly... i just changed out the o2 sensors and one was lose??? kinda wierd but i changed them out anyway since i was down there already then i thought well that had to be the problem so i get excited and hop in my car for a test drive... nope problem still there but not as bad??? so i decided to get on it threw first and second gear and the power is definetly not there like before.... its getting irratating so i decided to take my car on monday to this GM shop and see what they say... i just dont have the time right now to do too much more so thats why i decided to take it there, then they can tell me exactly what the problem is and i can fix it hopefuly but if i get a chance between now and then i will definetly change the wires
