Fastest Car in the world?

Make all the claims ya want guys (and girls) BUT the OFFICIAL world record for the fastest stock production car was ( read WAS) the McLearen F1 with a price close to 1.4 million US dollars. That record stood until 2 weeks ago (end of March 2005). Koenig ... yes Koenig; the aftermarket body parts manufacturer; has built a car called the Koenigsegg. It has a top end of 388 kph (255 mph) and is a production car. The price is close $350,000 US dollars. Go check out their official website at www.koenigsegg.se . Now I am a Chevydewd hardcore and would love to see something domestic take this back (like the Buick GNX) but will have to wait and watch for now.

Yep, one of my favorite cars.
I'm also interested in seeing the Saleen S7TT take a jab at that record in '05'-'06.

Well if anybody watched the video of the the CCR record breaking run, it topped out at 388kph/241.1mph. So I would say that until it has had an offical run that tops out over 409.9kph/254.7mph, it hasn't beaten the sledge but, the 88' Vette isn't a production car (just the fastest tested street car). The Mclaren's official record is 386.3kph/240.1mph. So it nudged the F1 out by less than 2kph!

and.... so what?
whoop-de-doo.
when the mclaren set that record it beat the previous record by more than just 2 kph using a set-up that was in drastic need for adjustment and pretty much fresh from the box.
how many versions of have they gone through the 'egg now?
so it's faster.
big deal...
it's not really making a ripple in the pond let alone breaking a wave.
think about it this way.
the F1 is how old?
how far has tyre technology alone gone on since then let alone other advances in car engineering.

Well consider this: The fastest top speed record from a street legal car is the Sledgehammer Corvette, built in 1988! I did post it in my previous post, but sometimes it takes twice.

but wasn't that an unofficial speed record?
and whilst it was/is always available to buy, it wasn't ever really a production car which is what the mclaren's record is for.
at the moment, there are quite a few cars that can be specced up top those speeds (it really is just a case of gearbox ratio adjustments).
two that come to mind are the dauer 962 (if you can find a decent original porsche chassis which dauer will then work on) and the lotus elise GT1 which the last i heard had a final gear at around 260-270 mph and that's not even using full boost pressure.
they're both road legal cars but hardly what you call production cars.

Well I know that the Sledgehammer did recorded its top speed at the Transportation Research Center (7.5 mile oval with steeply banked turns and straightaways) driven by Mr. Lingenfelter himself. It isn't a production car but, it would of been if people were willing to pay a $400k price tag for a vette....(yea right  ).
I'm sure there are many cars capable of accomplishing a higher top speed, but it would require more than a gearbox adjustment. I wouldn't even think it would be possible to push a car into these speeds with standard issue tires (I sures in hell wouldn't trust them).
Does anybody know if the F1/CCR used a type of semi-racing type tires? I would think so.

in the two cars i mentioned, it really is just a case of gearbox adjustments, them being barely legal road cars anyway.
as far as i recall, the F1 set it's record on 'standard' tyres (whatever they were) without even needing adjustment to its pressures; that's why i said out of box.... but then again, i also seem to recall that it did have its ratios re-jigged so maybe not so 'out of the box'....

Same here as well. I've heard good things about this car and I want to see it stretch its legs.
Does the F1 LM still hold all of those acceleration records that it had?
No. The Ferrari Enzo and one of the S7s took care of those. I even think the newest GT-40 took one of them out.
If you want to talk about speed records Hitler had several cars built that did over 300 mph when the Autobahn was completed. That was back in the 40's and way before the F1's , or any of the cars we're talking about, time.
Anyway, I don't know but Chrysler has very high hopes for their ME four-twelve. They say the top speed is "at least" 248 mph and are sure it'll blow the world speed and acceleration record out of the water.

If I recall correctly, I think Mr. Lingenfelter was apart of the engineering team that developed the Sledgehammer. Still, it was a Callaway.
Anyways what about the 4-12? I've heard rumors that it may not even reach production?

i havent heard much from it lately. for some reason i doubt it will be made. speaking of the 4-12 whats up with the buggati thats suppose to beat the 241mph the vyron(or however you spell it) the reason i dont like the chrysler is cause if you ask me, they just basically copied the buggati quad turbo's W16 engine. i dunno, but question, what does the koenigsegg run in the 1320?

I would doubt that Chrysler had copied the Venyron. The 4-12 has a V12 quad turbo, so I don't really see any relation to engine, and I'm sure everything else would be legit to.
Here's a link to the CCR/8.
http://www.koenigsegg.se/thecars/index.asp?submenu=4
It says 9 seconds, but it also states it can run 395kmh (which is hasn't), so I would say it would depend on how its launched (my guess: low/mid 9's......still blistering fast!!).

Kurtdg.... go back to the website and read it again. The one car broke the OFFICIAL speed record at 388kph. However if ya read it some more, the other model goes even faster 390+kph. The track they were running on would not sustain a higher speed. (You can only go so fast around a corner. Let's take these cars out to the Bonneyville salt flats and let them go; strait-line full out and see who takes it. I am a Chev-man big time but I'd love the Viper to kick on them all. ..... and yes even that Corvette (can't stand 'em LOL) .

I do not know if this will come out, but I have an article stipulating that Bugatti's Veyron did pass the Koenigsegg. I am going to try and paste the article (one small page), but if not, will type in the website, and also try to find a date on this.

I'd still buy the K car instead of the Bugatti. The K car is fuckin bad ass looking.
