polishing or waxing Duplicolour Charcoal grey?

So I laid down a great coat of paint, I think I'll use dupli-colour more often, it's great when laid on top of Tamiya primer.
Anyway, it's quite a metallic colour, dunno if you can see that too well in the pics.... I tried polishing the rear decklid, and although I only did it for a moment or so, it did start to bring off the gray a bit... but I didn't really notice an improvement in the sheen. I then took the rear bumper cover, scuffed it a tiny bit with 2000 grit and polished that, and again it didn't seem to gain any sheen. I'd love to give this finish my best effort, should I just lay on the polish and scrub like crazy, or am I doing the sanding/polishing process wrong?

Just put few coats of clear on it and then polish it, don't polish without clear coat.

ah, ok...if I wanted to go without clear, should I just go straight to wax?

If your metallic has som texture in it, you must clearcoat it to bring out the mirrorshine. You see, when you polish straight on the metallic, you disturb the tiny metallicgrains, making the paint dull. So clearcoat that metallic!

Yea..you MUST clear metallics before polishing if you want a nice finish..
Like Amazon said it messes up the tiny grains in the paint and wont look like how you want it.

okay, I got ya... but the can specifically says this is NOT a colour to be used with clearcoat. I suppose I just want it to look like the real life thing, which as I recall isn't really shiny anyway. Maybe just wax'll do it?

That is probably some kind of special paint for some "special" purpose. Some spray paints do not alow clear coat (like some chrome and gold or any other metal paints) but those paints are very unstable and do not alow anithing on them so you could also have a problem with wax. Hmmm now you are where you are try to wax but it could mess the paint as well.

my :2cents:
If I were you I wouldn't rush ahead. If you have some of the paint left over, spray it on some scrap body or even styrene sheet (over the same promer) and then experiment on that a bit - see how teh paint reacts to wax, clear etc
unless you super detailed your engine so much that it actually works, your model insn' going anywhere .... :)
