CRANKWALK! thats the only major problem ive heard about wit a mistubishi engine. o and a problem not directed to engine but on 96-97 spyders the convertible top can easily get messed up because the supports arent strong enough,

Crankwalk is something people talk about when they talk about DSMs, but it is a rare occurance. Can't really think of anything bad. Hmm...well, if you get a turbocharged DSM then you'll most likely develop an addiction for the car. Oh, and your gf/ significant other may become jealous when you start spending more time with the car and calling it baby. :p Sorry, got off topic at the end. You shouldn't have reliability issues if you keep up with the maintenance/ tune-ups.

DSM stands for Diamond Star Motors. DSM cars are 1g/2g Mitsubishi Eclipse, Eagle Talon, and Plymouth Laser. You can learn more about them by searching on this site, or go to www.vfaq.com Which Mitsubishi car are you interesting in purchasing?

I think the real problem with mitsu's 4g63 is that most mechanics don't know how to work on them. So basically many mechanics screw things up giving it a bad rep. Due to this, many shops around the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) refuse to work on these motors.

I regularly service my car which has 270 xxxkm (~168 750miles) and run's great. Doesn't burn or leak oil. Remember, high output usually means high maintenace. Trust me, i've seen GSR motors done after 80 000km due to improper maintenace.

What maintence did you do/they not do? Ok, change oil, flush radiator every 65/76000 miles, tranny oil, spark plugs if they show corrosion or any faults, and thats all I can think of. Did he not do ANY of these? 80,000 miles sounds like a short freaking life man.

I agree on this. A lot of Japanese engines are kinda complicated for those that don't know what they're doing. They're not as primal as some others...
