mitshbishi bad rep

hey guys i was having some trouble about deciding which car to get and it all ened up on the quality of the car
i heard alot of things that mitsubishi engines has a bad rep of being reliable. i have my own eclipse and its still running good but i've heard alot of bad things and dats y mitsubishi has a good warrenty

can snyone tell me some of the bad rep it has

Im not too sure about anything dealing with Mitsu cuz i have never really been around them, But i have heard that the over all quality (not including the engine) is lacking. Such as seats breaking off brakets, lights falling out, little stuff like that. Thats all i have heard being wrong with them. Other then that i would say that Japanese = quality

mitsubishi engines aren't terribly bad, but they use cheap accessories (like water and power steering pumps) and their transmissions have rather bad track records (the automatics start slipping and the synchros go out really easily on the manuals)

mitsubishi's are like any other car, if you treat it like shit, it's gonna run and look like shit. in my personal opinion mitsubishi's are the same quality as any other car if not better

I've had zero problems with my 03 EVO.

BTW, repeated 6000 RPM launches = bad clutch

Mitsubishi has earned a bad reputation mainly because of the tough spots that it finds itself in. They tried to cover up a lot of its mistakes, which is unacceptable for a Japanese company. And yes, alot of its vehicles lack an overall quality feel. But it is far from "crappy."

I haven't heard many bad things about the Lancer.

It seems like everyone's got something bad to say about Mitsubishi. 3 people in my family work at the North American plant building the eclipse, endeavor, galant, and several chryslers. I'll say that Mitsu has some of the highest quality control programs in the world. The cars are manufactured with the newest technology and there are few serious problems. Anything that goes wrong with any of the new Mitsubishi engines is a suprise to me because our family has owned 8 total and never had a serious problem (Ex. tranny going out, engine failure, major body problems...). Other car companies have had shocking things happen to their cars. If your looking to buy a Mitsu I definitely suggest it because they are really good cars. One thing to look out for though are brake problems (they are made really cheap) and minor paint problems for some cars like lancers. If you compare Mitsu to a American companies or most other international auto makers, youll find that it is at the top for quality and car performance. The problems in Japan right now dont have much to do with the American built Mitsus.

yes, the cars built at the Normal, IL plant, especially since 2001 have been pretty good, unfortunately for potential lancer buyers, lancers are not built at this plant.

i am from malaysia and want to make a remark here. if you guys think mitsubishi cars quality are terrible, try proton. the cars are based on mitsubishi lancer fiore, lancer( evo 1,2,3 chasis ) , mirage, townbox, eterna suffer from serious problems since 1999 after mitsu sold their shares....
the lack of quality control causes the parts to fall off....
like power window ( usually after 1 month )
