Car has no power!

I recently rebuilt my motor and finally got it running a few days ago. It idles great and all but when i go to give it some gas for hard acceleration the rpms just flatten out and i cant even get the tires chirpin. Im wonderin if my cam is too big for my carb and its not gettin enough fuel or if my torque convertor is dead. Any ideas?

large cams can often cause vaccum loss. if so just down size, is this when you try to start off real fast it wants to bogg down real bad, does it idle real well in neutral?

it doesnt bog down, it just seems to climb slowly until a certain point then just hold there even if i have my ffot to the floor. And it idles fine in neutral

has nothing to do with engine vacuum. i assume you don't run to large a cam anyways. sounds like your carb needs to be checked. what brand of carb are you running? Holley? 4 barrel or 2 barrel? sometimes the secondaries do not open wide enough cause of bent or improperly adjusted linkage. depending on the specs of your engine the metering jets in the carb might need adjustment (replaced to correct size). if it climbs slowly you might actually be getting to much gas, which will slow you down. you need to have the correct or as close as possible to correct air fuel ratio to get the most out of your engine.in order to give better advice the following info would be helpful. size engine, size cam, size and manufacturer of carb, ignition set at what degree?

looks like i was correct, from the info I found about your carb, it seems that you have a 2 barrel carb, so your carb and intake is restricting the power the engine could now make. I currently have a similar cam in my 350 Pontiac, but it has all the mods.Your engine lacks the ability to suck in the air, try to run the olympics breathing through a straw.pretty much the same thing. Your timing is ok, the carb is not.Am I correct in assuming that you just put in a bigger cam than stock without any other mods?

so, that did not help you at all, with that cam you need headers and a new intake together with a better carb, 4 barrel, but the carb can't be to big either, probably less than 600 cfm is what you need.you could get some good used pieces to stay in a budget. once you change those things your car will be as you wanted it to be.just putting in the cam would not do anything, it actually went the other way...

the problem was already solved. he only put in a bigger cam without any other mods.
