Ok, I have a '90 CRX in Australia, I wanna know how hard it is to drop a B20 in it with a VTEC head, and what the differences between a B16a VTEC and a D16 with VTEC head conversion are????? Whats better to do?

b20's aren't that great... personally i'm not too fond of any hybrid block/head configuration.... but that's just me, and the only way you can have vtec on a d series is w/ the sohc vtec motor, and that's pretty affordable but also only 127 horse....1st gen b16's are so damn plentiful and cheap not to mention they are sick what they can make ur lil shopping car do for the price..... then there is always the ZC which is a massive bang for the buck, not to mention easy to throw in.....
i had a ZC in my last rex and b16 in my new one.... they are both pretty impressive but the zc never screamed at 9 grand either... makes me crap myself. damn indy car.

Winchester - forget it with the Aussie CRXs unless you want to find a non-power-steering rack. It just won't fit. It also throws out your weight distribution as more weight is in front of the axles than the car is designed for. It can be squeezed in, but it simply is not worth it at all.
D16s with the mini-me SOHC VTEC swap cost a fortune to do properly so they don't hand grenade and most reputable places here won't touch it. You can't swap the DOHC B16A head onto the DOHC ZC/D16A block - it simply won't mate up at all. The ZC block is also different to the D16 SOHC block I understand.
B16A is a better swap but you will need custom mounts etc - places like Croydon Autosports will do the swap.
Personally I'd be doing the B18 VTiR Integra engine swap for the torque and then turboing it.
How did you get your B16A to rev to 9000rpm? Redline is 8000, the computer cuts your engine at 8200 and the thing hand-grenades at 9000 in stock trim without spending about 8000bucks in performance parts.

That's what I was thinking. 9000 RPM's?????

Well read his mods. He has upgraded valves/retainers. I'm pretty sure that helps him rev that high. Wait nevermind...i think you have to reprogram your ecu to do that high revving. Correct if i'm wrong.

yo dude, fuel cut off is at 10,000..... i will never take it that high, 9 is the max..... like i'm gonna lie about a redline, if you want i'll take a pic of the digital readout on the vafc and prove it to ya.

Well in my JDM SiR, the ECU cuts at 8200 - likewise with moppie's SiR so I'll call bullshit on that one I'm afraid
I know this for a fact because I have bounced off the redline quite a few times. If you are running the Honda ECU then unless you have a defender piggybacked then you can not exceed the factory redline. You can take all the VAFC readings you want, but if you hit 9000+ rpm on a stock bottom end consistently (not once or twice) then you will destroy the motor. Theory is only so much bullshit in the real world ;)
Also, it's not just about the valvetrain, it's about the fact that the pistons and conrods can not handle those RPM without being replaced with aftermarket high quality items. You also get stress fractures in the crankshaft.
Now I'm talking about Winchester's post, not your car. Yours may see 9000 although I'd be wary of doing that without an aftermarket bottom end.
I'm just amazed I haven't heard of the B16A CRX that does 9000rpm before - I'm cynical because there are too many bullshit B16A stories floating around in Australia, in our magazines plus some mag racers.

I have a 1.6 zc block... can I use a DOHC Vtec head on this?
Does it have to be JDM or can I use USDM Head on this mother??

No you can't. Its a very common question and this is a common answer....ZC belongs to the d series family and DOHC v-tec belongs to the b series family. B and D don't mix . Only b with b , d with d .

DOHC VTEC also belongs to the H (prelude) and C (NSX) series, as well as the F series (S2000), and the K (RSX, CR-V) series

i know.. but to qualify the statement you could have said:
"DOHC VTEC in civics & integras belongs to the B series" ;)
