i was wandering if anyone could help me out with a little problem i am having with my 2003 chevy blazer. once i get above 75mph my blazer starts to vibrate. what is wrong...and how do i go about fixing the problem. I did have my tires rotated about two weeks ago. the tires are the original tires and have 45,000 miles on them, with enough tred still.

any assistance would be appreciated. i have to go on a long trip in a week and need to get this fixed before. thank you in advance!!

It's a truck. Not a race car. I only touch 75 if I am passing, but it is not my regular cruise speed by any means in the thing...that's suicide, IMO. Most likely though, you may have had a tire weight that fell off, or a belt in the ply that makes up the radial carcass of the tire has shifted. Get them all re-balanced first, as that is the cheapest thing to do at this point. When you rotated your tires, did the vibes get better or worse?

I travel alot on the interstates for my work and when your drving in a state that the speed limit is 70mph....75 is not that bad!!! anway to answer your question, when i got the tires rotated it really didn't make a difference. thank you for your response. i will get them balanced and see if that fixes things. thanks

*Chuckle* Same here, interstate and most highways are between 65~70 MPH, I set the cruise control and leave it rock steady at 70 MPH. I just will not go faster than that as it is my experience that SUV's are just not meant to really go that fast. But yeah, balance the tires, or at least have their balance checked if rotating did not help. If the balance checks okay, you have other problems - could be shifted belts in the tire carcass as I stated above, or you may have an out of balance drive shaft/worn Universal joints. Search the forums for advice on how to check your driveshaft yourself if the balance does not cure it. If the driveshaft checks out okay, then I would suspect tires coming apart. I had a bad wobble/shake in another vehicle once and it turned out that not only did a belt in the tire shifted, but it was so deformed that the tread started to come off in chunks and made the tire dribble like a basketball.

On my first Blazer 1993 replacing the Torsion bar mounts stopped the vibration after all else failed, eg. balance, alignment, tire-swap, u-joints etc.
I have the same in my 1998 and will replace mounts first.

Its a 2003 though so i would rule that out i know i got a little vibration at that speed but one must realize that its 15 years old from the time it was built by the General and im not worried about a little vibration since everything checked out ok

I have to agree with the above poster, its not a race car its a small truck.
I can get up to 75-80mph and the truck shakes like a wearing blender.
My Tires are Brand New and psi set correctly. Maybe you have a ball
joint out or it could be a HUB bearing worn from the front left or right.
Blazers Ball Joints are always a problem. General Motors never replaced
the bad lower joints from my 1996 so it had to be done even after a letter
was sent to all the owners telling them they would have to replace the upper
joints before the lower joints would be replaced by General Motors Inc.
Anyway, if you want to go to speeds well over 100mph buy a sports car.

If your front end is in goo condition , then I would ask what kind of tires are you running. On and off road tires or street only tires. As well as your rims. Factory or after market. As for me I'm using American Racing rims 10X16 and running Eagle Goodyear +4 high performance 255x60x16 tires. I have no problems with speeds up to 80mph. Solid as a rock. I'd like to go faster, but the roads here are to short and to much traffic. Hope this helps.

I've gotten up to 100mph without a problem, no the engine doesn't have a limiter on it.. (and no the spedometer doesn't go anyhigher than 160kmh, 100mph) and it didn't shake, it actually went like a rocket, mmmmmmmmmm...

Did a few mods, installed a cold air intake, engine tune up, (new plugs) my 95 Blazer purrs like a kitten. All the stuff I did to it came from suggestions and discussions on this board, an awesome board, with awesome moderators.

It's a small truck that has a lot of punch!

Should not be vibrating at that speed. Could just be in need of a simple wheel balancing or front end alignment. I run smoothly with the cruise set at 85 and have gone up until the limiter kicked in without ever having any vibration. If your vehicle vibrates something is not right.

Yeah I agree, I was pushing 80mph on the freeway today, and the only vibration I got was from my Laredo tires that desperately need replaced.

I had the exact same problem with a brand new set of Goodyear Wranglers. I took my truck into "Big O Tires" where they performed a "ROAD FORCE TEST" see this link below as this solved my problem. Also see my thread on Front End Problem.

After the Road Force Test solved my problem, they've been great. I don't do any 4 wheeling since my Jimmy is a 2wd, but so far so good.:naughty:

I won't buy an all terrain tire again though because of the noise. (I only bought them because that was all they had in my size in stock.):grinno:

If you got 5 Goodyear Wranglers for $65 usd each. you got a real bargain. :bananasmi

I paid just under $400 out the door for 4 tires, mounted, balanced, stems, and road hazard warranty at Sam's Club which is a division of Wal-Mart. Then the Road Force Test ended up costing me $25.00 which was well worth the price. So my grand total came to just under $425 USD.

You must either be a knock-out Blond, or are married to one, or I am just butt-ugly. I paid $100+ USD per tire.
