Hi - I'm starting a full restoration of a '79 convert. I have a question about the dash. How difficult is it to replace the whole thing? For the most part the dash / spedo are in good shape, but the glove box is totally shot. Any suggestions?

There are replacement glove boxes available, both stock type and fiberglass, check CB Performance or Rocky Mountain Motorworks. The glove box is accessable from the trunk (in front under the "hood") and can be repalced pretty easily, just loosen and remove the strap that holds it in.

I just finished putting a dash skin over my old dash in a 74 convertible i'm restoring and it really turned out better than i expected. of course my old dash was cracked pretty bad. the skin was less than $100 but i was told the whole dash would cost over $300. after installing the skin , i dyed the rest of the dash with some leather shoe dye.
as for replacing the wole dash , it just takes time to unhook everything vents , wires , knobs , ect. i'm not really sure if a new dash even comes complete with the glovebox. is it the inside of your glove box that is messed up or the door itself? hope this helps
