High Mileage Supra

My neighbor is selling a green well maintained supra with 160k on it and it is selling for 15k. I was wondering if that was a good price for one even though it has high mileage. Even if it does need a rebuild, couldn't I get it done for how much Isave. It is auto though and has a clean title. What do you guys think? Does that sound like a good deal? Anyways thanks for any comments and help you may leave.

Hell no, for 15k you could buy an older one and put the 12-13k in the motor and have a great supra. If it is the newest but most likely isn't. Don't waste your money on a 160,000 mile car when you could get a half the miles or even less then half for cheaper than that. If I was you, I would say to that guy, "That car ain'y worth no 15k, it's worth about 2k or 3k". So don't buy the car because it probaly dosen't run, and you can find one that runs and is a manual tranny, and you can put the money you save into the motor. SO WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T BUY THAT SUPRA. IT ISN'T WORTH IT...

Bull. What gen supra is it? (What year) Is it a turbo or not? If its a mk4 turbo it is easly worth 15k, even with high miles. Don't try to tell me all motors just go or cars suck after 100k miles...

If it is a MKIV it would not have that many miles one it. Cars barely have 150kmiles on them when they are 10 years old, ALL MOTORS DIE EVENTAULLY EVEN IF THEY ARE WELL MAINTAINED IT WON'T MATTER. But if he wants to waste that much money on a car with 160k miles on the TRANNY, MOTOR, AXLES, AND BASICALLY THE DRIVTRAIN go ahead. To me it's not going to be a reliable car. If the motor dosen't blow up the tranny will go and to me 160,000 is a lot of miles. If I was him I would buy a newer one for the same price with less miles. [The only way I would buy a car with 160,000 miles on it, it would have to be a 1969 Charger with the headlights popping out (no grill in front hate it), But it would need to be in graet condition well the Drivtrain, who cares about looks before performance oh ricers who don't know what a car can do................

One more thing, If you have someone with the worth of cars thing it wouldn't go for shit, maybe less than 3 grand. It's a scam for money.......

Not argueing, but a car has miles on it for all different reasons, I have a 93.5 supra (MKIV) with over 225k miles on it. and I have a 94 Turbo with less than 100k on it. It just depends on how much it's driven, granted some cars have an average amount of miles on it for what's expected to be driven. But it could have 160k on it. Considering that he wants 15 for it would lead me to believe it's a MIKIV. What year it is could also be a factor in it's price, if it was a 97 anniversary edition, it could easily be worth the 15k. Just let the man make up his mind on it if he wants it.

I believe it is a 94 MKIV, it is green and auto. The condition internally and externally is pretty clean, Imean normal wear and tear with the seats and what not, but otherwise nice. What do you guys think. I know it is pricey for that much mileage, but my uncle has a toyota shop where I can get a complete rebuild for not too much. I was planning to get a supra for a while, an NA one due to some finacial problems, but if I can find a TT one for just as much but with 60k more and auto, I can always do a rebuild and swap in a 6 speed with enough money over time, but Doing a TT conversion may not pass smog here in Cali and is pretty expensive even when getting hooked up. Also, TT's come with bigger brakes and a stiffer suspensions stock from what I have heard. I would have jumped on it if it were a six speed, but the cheapest I have seen those go is like 24k with 105k on it. The 2JZGTE is supposedly a really reliable and strong engine that's what drew me to the Supra. Anyways thank you for all the comments.

The 2jzgte is a twin turbo motor, you would be buying the 2jzge which is the non-turbo motor. Both are still very durable. The miles shouldn't draw you away from this buy if your going to rebuild the motor anyways. Buy a twin turbo bottom end and do some head work on the head and you got yourself a pretty stought car.

Ok litsen, I would easly buy any toyota or honda with 160,000 miles. Why? Because your wayyy off. 160,000 miles is nothing. My grandpa has 200,000 on his 1996 accord. It runs like new. My aunt has 240,000 on a CORSICA! It runs fine. Things just don't break on cars, even after 200,000 miles. And the way it was mantained and driven makes a HUGE differance. I highly doubt my motor, axels, tranny, and ''basically the whole drivtrain'' Will do when I hit 160,000 miles. My car has 145,000 now. Its a turbo celica. (Stock turbo) Same turbo. Same motor. Same everything. I drive it every day. Will everything start to break on it that fast? Ummm no. I don't see how you would think cars die after like 150,000 miles. Not everyone wants to pay 20g's+ for a nicer one. Its not just this car, I'm talking in general here. Lets say you want a celica. One is 3,000 with 150,000 miles. One is 6,000 with 100,000 miles. What one would you pick? I just want to know why you think everything breaks over time. Tons of cars and driven daily over 160,000, does that mean they are on the verge of death? And, If you want to talk miles, my dad got 400,000+ miles out of his 1994 camry le, Then the head gasket went. Toyotas are bulletproof. And most 10 year old cars have at least 100,000 miles from what I know.

No the car would have a 2JZGTE.. or at least I think it would cause it is Twin Turbo. Or do you think I should jsut get an NA 5speed? what would you rather do, for 15k get a high mileage decent conditioned TT Supra auto, or for the same 15k get a excellent condition low mileage NA 5 speed supra and save up later and get a 6speed conversion with a TT engine, assuming it would pass smog, I don't know if it would though. Has anyone heard of a TT conversion passing smog in los angeles if it uses all the TT smog equipment and sensors and comes from a same year vehicle? Anyways again thank you for all the help and information.

I would go for the atuo twin turbo, but I doubt you could find one that isn't wrecked for under 20g's

If he is ganna get everyting rebuilt go for then but it's your decisoin not ours. Do what youu want. One more thing it depends on how much you drive to go to work and stuff, if you drive 40 miles a day to go to work then you can have that many miles, it all depends on how much you drive. To me a car that much would have to be newer, but it's you decision.

lol...my old car (98 j-body) had 278k miles on it before I got rid of it in mid-2004...that's a 6 year old car with a lot more miles than this 11 year old car...If you drive for a living or go to a lot of car shows you can easily rack up 40-60k miles a year. On the other hand some people have 2 cars and barely put 2k miles on their weekend car each year. It's all down to the individual.
Even though my old car is almost eclipsing 300k miles it is still road legal and still drives...in fact...the stock clutch lasted until after I got rid of it...a few months after I got rid of it the tranny did die, but the engine is still in good condition...so don't just assume cars will die after only a few miles. The only problem I ever had with the car was with the water pump, which is a pretty cheap fix when you think about all those repair-free miles.
