2000 S10 clutch fluid

Ok so I don't know squat about cars. For the last 4 days I've noticed a steady decrease in the performance of my clutch/shifting. Now it's become almost impossible to get the truck into gear. I have a 2000 chevy s10 like the post name says.. I had someone i know that knows a little bit about vehicles check for me, says I have low clutch fluid. So the cap says i need Dot 2 brake fluid to fill it up... only problem is noone around here carries it. Can i use dot 3 to fill it up??? or is that not good. What do i do?... =(

DOT 3 is fine. In a pinch, you could use power steering fluid too.

Do Not, By Any Means Put Any Kind Of Petrolium Based Oil In A Clutch Master Cylinder. Put The Dot 2, Or 3 In It. Any Thing That Is Related To Oil, From Petrolium Based Products WiLL Ruin The Rubber Cups In That Slave Cylinder. It Causes Them To Swell Up, And If You Think You Have A Problem Now, Just Put Some Oil In It, And Your In For A Hell Of Mess. The System Works Just Like Hydralic Brakes Do. Brake Fluid Won`t Boil, Expand, Or Evaporate. Oil Will Do All Of The Above.

DOT 3 is fine. In a pinch, you could use power steering fluid too.

Brake fluid ONLY.

Transmission and power steering fluid is NOT what you put in there.
