does anyone know if a buick 3.8 231 cu.in. out of a 1977 pontiac sunbird will swap into an s-10/15 any year.

You could make it fit, but why? Such a combination would be barely any faster than a 2.8 V6 in an S10.
You would need to use the 231 transmission, since the bell housing bolt pattern on all S-10s is different. Likely you would need to make a custom driveshaft and you would need to fabricate engine mounts and an exhaust system.
It's a lot of work for not much power.
A stock 4.3 L S10 would be MUCH faster.
If you are going to all the time and effort to swap an engine into an S10, use a Chevy 350. There are kits available for those.

is not the buick 231 and the 4.3 the same engine family. tranny bolt pattern and engine mount pattern the same? read this in several other forums. buick 231 is a heck of an engine and i have one that i don't want to waste. i thinkit also has several more ponies than the 2.8 which is a 60* v6 as opposed to the 231 90* v6 with more torque.
