Ok I'm gettin serious about buying a 99 Si with 77k on the clock and I just have a quick question. I've driven my buddy's 00 Si with I/H/E and was less than impressed with the low end pull of the motor. Other than that I loved it. I think I'm leaning towards the Vortech sc with the aftercooler to solve the torque problem but I keep reading all this stuff about Hondata. Do I have to have it to run the sc? The reason I want to know is the only place that will even mess with hondata here locally has a bad reputation of ruining people's cars with it. Let me know what you guys think.

you don't have to use hondata. You can go with Uberdata, or an AFC and use the hack or any other engine management.

If torque is what you need, then you might as well go elsewhere. Really worth putting a SC into a car with that many miles?
I don't even find torque to be a problem for my DX(as far as daily driving goes). If you want to race it, then just admit it.

77K isn't a lot to put a supercharger on, as long as the engine has been maintained well (frequent oil changes, belts, plugs, compression check).
But to use Hondata, you'd need an OBD1 ECU ('92-'95) and a OBD2b to OBD1 conversion harness. It's because they only make it for the OBD1 ECU's. So you should look at other engine managment systems.

My engine didn't get broken in until I hit 179,000. The person who owned it before me must have never really reved on the engine hard. Well, I either broke it in or I broke something :D.
