Try turning the steering wheel both directions. That is, the switch may be in a bind and moving the steering wheel may relieve the tension.

Thanks Tim, we've already tried that with no such luck. Initially the wheel wasn't locked which we found odd, but now it's locked and we can't turn the key to get it unlocked. But to look on the bright side...at least this happened at home.
Thanks Again!
Thanks Again!

Did you try both keys that came with the van?

You sure it's the correct key for the van?

this just happened to me also...the lock cylinder needs to be replaced...it is easy to get to (3 screws under steering column) but you need to turn the key to run to pull it out..haven'y figured that one out yet...

I think it would be the tumblers. I had the same problem with my alero. I bet you thats the problem. Give it a shot and tell me what it was.

I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee, same thing happened. Call to get it towed and the tow guy said hey I can fix it. The above was right, need to get the cylinder changed, they wear apparently, too many keys on a ring the guy told me.
In the mean time he got in put the key in and here's the hard part...
hit the end of the key with a hammer while trying to turn it, it works and haven't had a bit of trouble with it yet. I do keep the hammer in the Jeep just incase.

Yea I agree that it will most likely be the ign lock cyl. yea there are a few screws in the cover to remove. Then there is a pin you have to push in, so that lock cyl will pull out. The problem is that it want the key turn to the on position I think. That is what is going to give you a mess. When you buy the new one you will see better of what I am talking about. It is not hard but can make you pull your hair out a little, if you have never done one before.
