So my turbo went about a week ago on my '97 gsx and i finally decided to go with the upgraded EVO III turbo. The turbo, kit, and install at a local shop is going to be around 1200 so it was a pretty big kick in the nuts since i work at KFC. Yes i make 5.50 an hour:) but anyways im pretty happy with it and hope that it will be worth it.

Ouch.... well, good luck with the turbo, but the install isn't altogether that difficult if you have enough time. You might want to look around for anyone in your area who knows dsm's, or one of your friends, see if they can help.

Turbo and parts should only be about what, 800? 400 for labor sounds steep. Thats a good hundred an hour. :22yikes:

good choice on the turbo, but id seriously consider self install. and check extremepsi.com before you buy your turbo. i got mine from them with the 2g install kit for $764 shipped.

So you can get an EvoIII 16g ( with instal kit ) and run your car just fine ?? i thought you had to have at least 550CC injectors and an S-afc otherwise it would run crapyier than your stock turbo did ?? corect me if im wrong please. cause this is the route im soon looking to take after my clutch is done.

you can upgrade to the evo16g without supporting mods but are limited to the stock ecu airflow maps. you'll have fuel cut problems durring aceleration. you'll have to set your boost levels to around 12psi. it wont make notical diffrence from the stock turbo. upgrading the injectors and air/fuel controller will intersept the maf signal and alow you to trick the ecu into seeing less airflow.

its just not terribly worth going with a larger turbo if you cant use it.

if you can afford to buy the supporting mods you'll want:

walbro 190-255 fuel pump w/rewire
aeromotive afpr
500cc+ injectors
air/fuel controller (safc1, safc2, vpc, dsmlink, gmmaft)
logging device ( www.pocketlogger.com , www.dsmlink.com , plenty others)
boost gauge & mbc.

i have a Boost guage an im geting a MBC made from a freind, its suposed to be really good.....he says its from 0-2 lbs spike. i was just planing on geting the EvoIII 16g - 255 pump - 550 injectors with the multiport sprayers instead of the single. and an SAFC. just curious....since most of you guys have been around longer. what are prices i should be looking at for EvoIII ( with 2g kit )+ 550's+SAFC + 255 walboro?

Actually I will be starting out with 550cc injectors, s-afc, EBC, evoIII16G
The only hold-back will be the boost I can run on the stock fuel pump..limited to about 17-18psi before fuel-cut...also from my understanding you can get a low pressure walbro 255 and not need a FPR ..and I am going to eventually get a pocketlogger but jake will be using his to get mine fine tuned after 6-bolt install.

Yes it can get a little spendy but if your lucky like me you might find an EvoIII16G w/2gen kit for $405 :naughty: almost brand new!!!
The rest of it was ebay prices...new...

Just a side question but for a 97 talon I want the pocketlogger OBDII?
Don't I need a palm pilot or something to go with the P-logger? or can I get by without one?

I run evo8 560s and the stock fuel pump, and have run 20 psi on the EvoIII 16g with fairly good timing--certainly nothing that will blow a motor. However, I run 18 psi on the street, and won't boost over that until I get my fuel pump installed (190lph).

Spyderman, you want the OBDII pocketlogger, and you will need a palm pilot running Palm v.3.0 or later to make it work.

I have heard Kevin say that DSMlink is cheaper in the end than pocketlogger + SAFC. I dont know the specifics though.

It's not cheaper, but if you had a 95 with eprom ECU it might be more reasonable. I would know if the original poster had his car in his signature.
