J30 mods

http://www.nissanperformancemag.com/projects/pathfinder.php

the above article details some very nice mods made to a pathfinder with (i believe) vg30e, which i think is a single cam vg30de.

Some of the mods included a new header and new cams. I've seen cams on stillen.com and jimwolftechnologies.com. I don't see why they wouldn't fit in the J30's engine. I'm wondering if the header made for the pathfinder would fit on a J30. 300zx headers wont fit because the two cars only share engine and transmission. How similar is the intake/exhaust on a j30 to a pathfinder?

what to people think about swapping in a block from a vg33e from a nissan xterra? The only thing that might make it be a bad idea cost wise would be the fact that the auto transmission in the j30 is kinda week, though swapping in a trans from a q45 or 300zxtt might help that.

if you wanna add more hp add this:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7968584743

adds 20 hp and it will work for the j30 also because j30's and 300zx's have same engine

then to get more hp add a new air intake with a bigger mouth like:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=38634&item=7968530414&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
youll get bout 25+ extra horses on that engine. there are other air filters also so dont think this is the only thing. plus it will save you a bunch of money than swithing out an engine

both of those "ebay tunes" are snake oil... don't get them.

electric superchargers are a waste of money as well as those "piggy back" resistors. Seriously people.

If you want to get some nice gains from your J30, get a nice full exaust and look for some 93 300zx headers (good luck installing them though....) the engine bay is so darn tight you can't fit a turbo in it and i have yet to see anyone put a cai in one. The J unfortunately is not a "racing" car... it's a luxary car. if you want some minor gains, get some performance spark plugs and get yourself a short ram intake or something. Do NOT waste your money on a elecric blowdrier.

I hate to see someone spend 70+ dollars on something that won't do anything for performance, and 20 dollars for something that could potentially harm your MAFS.

easy ones are

Intake- you can get a drop in filter for $40 but the intake tube is small and ends under the head light, a drop in will get colder air then the cone which is good. a cone filter would allow the car to get more air but would be drawing in warmer air because the air is from the engine bay unless you do a cold air intake. you can also do a dual intake, j30 intake manifold is the same as a 300zx. this would require dual maf sensors if you want it to work right.

Fan Clutch - remove the fan clutch and fan. hook up a electrical fan with thermostat. this will remove weight from the water pump pully on the serpintine belt, and allow the car to rev quicker and will give you more hp.

Exaust - dual it. you can pick the driver side up right before the stock muffler and install a new one, and pick up the passenger side one before it cuts back to the drivers side and put a muffler on it. i have 2 glass packs, sense the j30 has 2 cats, and 2 resonators my car is not loud at all. its almost the same as stock at high rpms, and has a low tone at idle to 2k. headers would be a good idea on newer cars not rusted but you may get broken studs installing headers and create more problems and work then its worth. replacing/removing cats and resonators would gain power but make the car louder.

Electical - Ecu upgrades would probably help, this will help any car by changing air/fuel ratios and timing and removing top speed and rev limiters.

lighter drive shaft, internal engine parts any upgrades for a 300zx. high quality spark plug wires, and ngk top of the line spark plugs.

well... you are somewhat right, however the dual exaust is already set up on the j30. it just runs to one side instead of two (look under your car)

the second, there are no spark plug wires on the j, there are spark plug coils, and if you want to spend 200+ on each one be my guest...

The cai is a nice thought, but i have yet to see it done and there is very little room in the engine bay for it to be done in.
Headers are a joke.... try installing them... just try... like i said the engine is jammed in there pretty tight.

I dunno, when it comes to performance, not much to do... the J is made for a luxary car with some zip... if you want a fast car, buy a fox body and put 3000 under the hood.....

both of those "ebay tunes" are snake oil... don't get them....

lol... if people want to pay 50$ for a 5 cent resistor, why not? Too much money in the wallet hurts real bad... until its spent...

And btw, getting the v6 into open loop (cold engine running mode) increases injection, gallons per mile, soot, some pwr, whatever...

Cheapest performance mod is the swiss cheese turbo. Next measure and figure out which is the most restrictive part in intake and open that up...:

How do I disable the hicas in a 93 J30?
The lines feeding my HICAS are leaking and I would like to elimnate HICAS from my J30. Did you ever get an answer to your question? If so, could you please share it with me?

Did you ever get an answer? I would like to do this on my 93 J30 as well rather than replacing the leaking lines.
