working on boosting HP

ok,
Been looking to boost HP in my 04 GT, so far Ive done minor things, changed spark plugs, tightened throttle cables, ground wire kit, cold air intake, just bought some headers and i'm installing Evo 2 exhaust. Now, aside from cams, pulleys, flywheel, and a supercharger, does anyone have any good ideas? I want to get to 500 HP w/o using Nos. Will porting and polishing reduce engine life as Ive been told? Can anyone help me come up with a plan to go by with boosting the speed on the tib?

500whp?
500hp at the crank?
cause youre looking at spending a shit load of money to get there... you talking about getting an NGM built block (internals/ built bottom end)
and most likely a turbo kit
whats your budget, and ill tell you what you can afford

well,
I'm just putting in the money as I go. One thing at a time....I was trying to change out all the things as if I was going NA such as the clutch, pulleys, cams, etc and then when the car is closer to being done I could drop a supercharger in. Ive been told the supercharger would be better than a turbo because turbo can only give you so much boost. My buddy suggested that porting and polishing and changing the valves would make a huge difference but another guy told me that would take away about 30k miles from the engine life, what's the story? Is it really true that the 07 will be a 3.8 Liter with a supercharged engine? Would it make more sense to wait on that and trade it in? I just want to be able to rape most of these other cars on the road and I love the sound of a car with FI, just like a jet engine!! Steer me the right way man. Let's say an conservative figure like no more than 5K for starters and then we'll go from there.

Shit. If that's true I'll trade mine in too!! :smokin:

read some of the posts on here, that's something that I keep hearing about. Who knows if it's true but that's a rumor I'd like to confirm.

nisco,
how much am I looking to spend on a supercharger? Do different ones put out more or less? The guy i'm buying from gets his stuff directly from the company and he says this supercharger will give me up to 5lbs boost or 50 hp.He says this is the only one that they make for my car,and he quoted a little over 3k for it. Do other companies make superchargers for my 04 tib?

Ok, first go find whoever told you a supercharger can push more boost than a turbo, and then punch him in the balls. Next, go find the guy that said he sells the only supercharger for the 03-04 GT, and punch him in the balls.
Fact - Most decent turbos can push up to 20 psi. Also, you'll see much better gains from a turbo than from a super.
Fact- I know of at least two supercharger kits for the GT, the Alpine kit and the RIPP Mods SDS.

one thing i know that he explained was that the s.c. gave constant boost while the turbo had to spool up, he mentioned that this s.c. would adjust from 0 to 5 psi and that it costs 3,650.00
Thats actually the main argument that Ive heard in S.C. vs Turbo, one was constant while one was not.One of the biggest things that turned me on to S.C. was that they told me that I wouldn't have to change out my exhaust and headers again if I went S.C. instead of Turbo. I'll let you know more about what he says but i'm really confused now.

spool time with a turbo depends on the size/ model of teh turbo itself...
the only way to control the psi of a s/c is the changable pulleys in the engine bay... or teh gas pedal... meaning how heavy of a foot you have...
if you dont want to change your headers/ exhaust then go s/c.. its all preference...
you dont seem to understand turbo chargers all too well... thats in no way meant to be disrespectful, but never get something you dont understand/ know how to opperate yourself...
ask what type of s/c it is..
roots type?
centrafugal?
whipple?
thing is some s/c's also take time to "spool up" or hit boost...
i havent heard of any f/i set up able to go from ZERO boost to whatever...
you can have stock boost.. and 5psi, 7psi 13psi.. etc etc etc.. levels of whatever you want your set up to be...
and is this the same shop that did that custom cai? :uhoh:
if so... then stay away from them...
if you want indepth answers on the types of s/c's jus ask away

RIPP Stage 1 SDS Kit for the V6 2.7 5spd/6spd or Auto
F.A.Q.
this is what he was offering me, he spoke to me today and from what he's telling me I would be happier with a stage 2 supercharger from Ripp. Anyone else that makes a better one? Does a supercharger make the same jet engine sounds as a turbo? That shit sounds so sweet! No, it's not the same guy who did the CAI, I'm done with him, I'm buying an injen from this guy and the other dude is giving me a creditfor the crappy job his mechanic did which i'm gonna use to rape him for some cobalt gauges. I think that going S/C is going to be better for me because I already have some headers and this guy is only charging me 400 beans for the Greddy Evo 2 setup. I can't be changing parts again. Anyway, please get back to me and let me know what you think.

how much would install be from the?.. how much to dyno tune it... you need gauges and pods and shit...
its not that easy as driving away and being happy

well, right now my shop said that they haven't heard much feedback about RIPP but of course they've heard of Alpine. Now, the problem is that he hasn't heard of any Alpines sucessfully installed down here in a tib. Not that there aren't any, just that not many down here have them. The install would be free for me because I have a friend from Hyundai who also does performance stuff working on it. I got a quote today for a dyno thru our car club that would fine tune for 500 bucks, not sure if that's too much but he'll take the car up for a week and most often guarantees an extra 40 horses or so. Like I told you earlier, the guy who put in the shitty CAI is giving me a 140 dollar credit so i'm going to buy some cobalt gauges, just not sure which ones to get. I was told to pick up an airfuel and EGT gauge. Oh yeah, the owner spoke to me today and gave me some advice which I know you won't like Nisco as I know your opinion about NOS from previous threads. He told me that if i wanted to put some HP in the car to put a 75 shot in the car, he would make sure that the car was capable, he said it was safe and it would add a good 75 horses or so. The kit he would install would not only include the "fire" button but the NOS would also be connected to the throttle so that I could burn it when I hit the pedal down all the way.The perks were that in the meantime it would not only give companies time to really develop a supercharger for a tib but that I would have time to save up for the S/C. With all that said bro, I reallllly need your help bad. I got the bungs welded on my headers today. Now, as everyone knows from my earlier post, I have 4 02 sensors and my OBX headers has only one bung. There are no cats on these headers and I need to know what to expect. Will my CEL come on, because they haven't found an 02 sim that works for my car. They said I might be running rich afterwards. Also, this is the way they welded the headers. We set up four bungs, 2 of them with threaded plugs. Is it possible to or even sensible to run onlythe 2 primary sensors and leave the other two secondary sensors connected but not installed receiving open air ?, or should I connect all four? pro's and cons of both? .....They also told me to ask you if the check engine light did come on, would it be "safe mode" and run rich, yes or no? Has anyone done a header job like i'm about to and run into the same problems? If so, what did you do and were you able to keep the check engine light off? PLEASE HELP!!!!

Alright man, well first off some general knowledge of S/C's and T/C's is in order: http://www.newtiburon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33142&highlight=Forced+Induction+Basics
read that first...o and that author is familiar :)
Now Ripp stage 2 is not released yet, and won't be til later this summer.
AS far as Alpine goes, well you need to check this out www.nextgenmotorsports.com he is the guy you need to talk to about Alpine setups, he is the master. And $500 for dyno tuning...WOW, that's NOT a good deal. Do some research and DO NOT take local shops word as gospel, go in with some knowledge before hand.
