here we go. when i get on the freeway and im going about 85 and up, my check engine light comes on and my thermostat starts to read from 220 to 100 to just outside the red. when i slow down to about 55 it seems to work just fine. im gonna swap the readiator, hoses and thermostat this sunday im wanting to make sure that this problem isnt with the waterpump or the tensioner not keeping the belt tight enought to turn the pump at those speeds. it sucks cause i cant tell how fast im actually goin because my speedo deosnt work sense i had my tranny rebuilt. it worked for like a day than quit. anyway im more worried about the cooling problem than i am about the speedo and ideas would be apperciated. the problem is the check engine ligth only comes on at high speeds and when going less than i'd estimate 75 there is nothing bad happening including the light. so its kinda hard to run for codes unless some one can tell me how to hook my car up to a lap top. and where to get the hardware and softwareto do it. thanks, Jess

you don't need all that, you just jump the 2 terminal on the ecm interface plug under the dash, I'll see if I can find a more detailed description for you.

Ok, there's a diagram of the terminal underneath the steering column, with the car off, and all accessories off, take a paper clip or piece of wire and jump socket A to socket B, then turn the ignition on all the way, but don't crank it over, you should hear the fan come on and the SES light will start to flash you codes. It should flash code 12 three times first like this.. *FLASH*.....(pause).....*Flash Flash* Once it does that three times it'll flash you your trouble codes the same way, three times each. when it's done, it'll flash code 12 again.
