I have to replace my front wheel bearings, and the outer one is seized! I don't know exactly what to do. I was thinking of just taking a torch to it and cutting it off the spindle, would that be ok? If not is there any puller that might work? thanks for any help.

mmmmmmm the good old days when wheal bearings didnt cost 150+ :headshake cutting it off might be a bad idea unless yer really good with yer torch since its the outer yer rotor is still there so you might try getting a slide hammer atached to the rotor and get it off that way or buy a new rotor and beat it off with a hammer you can try a little heat just to make thing a little eazyer though :headshake

That's what I was thinking of doing, the slide hammer, but I was wondering, the bearing is broken and I could get a slide hammer on the inner race probably but idk if that would be useless or not (i've only done a bearing once and it wasn't seized). Do you think bashing it off would work or would it damage the spindle possibly?

the spindle is very hard material but you can still scar it with a hammer you could try it but be carefull

Alright, well I rented a 3 jaw puller from Autozone that i'm gonna put around the rotor and push from the spindle, hopefully w/ enough PB Blaster it will work. Is the inner part of the bearing supposed to hold still or spin?

the part of the bearing that is in contact with the spindle shold not spin normaly i have seen bearings seize and damage the spindle cuz the inner part spins but not in yer case

Well I ended up taking the whole spindle off on my lunch break and brought it in to work. Tried the puller, tried using heat, couldn't get it to fit w/ the press, even tried cutting the inner part of the bearing...nothing worked, didn't even move a half a millimeter. So i'm gonna just start looking for a new spindle and rotor, might as well do both sides while im at it. But tomarrow i'm gonna go to the shop and try plasma cutting my way to the spindle, just to see if I can get to it without damaging it...I assume I will damage it, but i've lost all hope so it won't matter.

UPDATE:
Ended up giving up on the old spindle and rotor, went to the junkyard and ended up getting more than I asked for! I got the spindle, a good rotor, 2 good pads, and good bearings for $40! Beats buying the spindle and a new rotor. I got it all back together just an hour ago and everything works great. Thanks for all the help!
