Well tonight I was over at a friends house and was going to leave so I tried starting my car and all I heard was a clicking sound from under the hood. :crying: They (clicking noise) were coming from the passenger side, the black box right next to the windshield. My car reset itself (the radio cleared all memory) like it was a dead battery. So I tried starting it again and the clicks kept going as the starter was tring to turn over, then after holding the key in the on positions all the lights came back and the starter cranked up and the car started fine. I turned it off and restarted (about 10 times) just to see if it happened again, and it did althought each time got better. Now the car is starting fine like it use to, any ideas? I don't want to get stranded somewhere because my car won't start. :screwy:

BTW what is that black box on the passanger side

My truck used to do that. About once a month i'd have to get a jump at work to get home. turned out to be a bad connection at the battery terminal. It was VERY lightly corroded, but just enough to cause my battery to discharge. Maybe u need new cable clamps. :2cents:

The battery is brand new (Optima Red Top) and when I replcaed that I also replaced the battery terminal screw's. I checked the connection and it is tight, also one of my first guesses

is the black box the air intake?

The air intake is on the drivers side. I took a look at mine and I couldn't figure out which black box you are talking about. Can you post a pic? The only moxes I see close to the windshield is the PCM and some other goofy looking black dealy (I'm not sure what the heck it is).

hey did your security light come on in the display? im asking because the vats selanoid (cant spell for shit) goes out from time to time. it happend to me and my boys ws6. sometimes i would try an start my car and nothing at all happed. thats usualy the thing on its way out, then it starts after awhile. i was told the piece was thin and brittle and after awhile it would snap, and when that happens the car wouldnt never start until it was fixed. cost about 100 bucks. something to look into if it ends up not having to do with your battery or altenator

Sometimes if I turn my key to the on position but don't start the car and leave it like that for a minute or so something under the hood starts clicking. Could that be a VATS problem too?

Even though i have a 3rd gen, i did have this same exact problem before. It turned out for me to be a loose battery cable. It was bolted in but just like one groove away from tightness and sometimes when i would drive, turn off the car, and attempt to turn back on, all i would get was that ticking noise and no start. But you did say you replaced the cables and all so i don't know.

Well I rechecked the battery connection when I got home from work and I did tighten the positive side cable very slightly. I guess I will see if that is it. Also I noticed tonight when I was messing with the battery there was a very faint hissing noise coming from the top of the battery. its was coming out of the gray circle thing on the top (check pic). Now this is suppose to be a "sealed" battery could that be the problem?

Yeah, that box is your PCM. As for the battery if it's supposed to be sealed I would think that it shouldn't hiss like that.
