damn thats really not that good for a cobra... the new GT's can compete with that :(

well stock a '96 cobra is a 4.6L V8 and 32 valves (so its got some flow) also a 5-spd manuel, so it's not that bad really, and besides, look at the GT's form the earlier 2000's, came stock 260hp, so the '05's have made a huge performance jump, while keeping the same liter of engine, guess that shows that intake and exhaust design has a definite effect on power.
but like i said before that's after some quick research, feel free to do some of your own research if you believe i'm off. sometimes a forum isn't jsut about opinions but getting out the factual information when there are indeed right and wrong facts, so if you feel i'm wrong, then by all means research and correct me.

oh and also forgot that the '96 cobra's 4.6L V8 is DOHC, which is just a little more to consider.

The 4.6 cars from 1996-1998 are the worst years to buy for modular performance. If you want a mod car go 99+. If you want a pushrod fox then go for 1995 and earlier. If you are planning for performance, and have a modular engine, stay away from the first 3 years of mod cars, 1996-98 are the worst.

is a 96 cobra supercharged?

:banghead:
It's the 96-98 2V cars that arn't great from the factory. I would take a DOHC 96/97/98 Cobra over a 99-2004 GT any day of the week. To put it in perspective, an all out race ported 2V head will flow around 240 CFM's on the intake. A bone stock 96 cobra head flows better than that, and a good street port for a DOHC head will push them to around 315 CFM's.
The new 3V GT seems great and all, but the single exhaust valve is going to severely choke off exhaust flow compared to the intake side, and won't perform nearly as good as a 4V car.

Only the 2 valves SOHC modulars sucked ass..... not the DOHC 4 Valve Cobra's.
I would avoid the 96-98 GT's unless I was planning on swapping heads and intake.

not really. i doubt it would break alot as along as u took care of it. Also it has 25 thousand miles on it. U got at least another 75 or 100 thousand miles in it! also its a 96 corba with 25 thousand miles must likly meaning the owner took great care of the car and was a sunday cruising car not a everyday driver.
Could u do me a favor and see what his asking price is?

wow... man domestic cars are better than they used to be... and yes honda and those companies are the reason, they forced the domestic manufacturers to stop screwing everybody. lets just put it this way... ive never had ANY repair on my car. plus thats a cobra, which means its top of the line shit.

Buying into stereotypes OWNS!
Let me guess, your Dad wants you to get one of those nice reliable European cars, like an Audi, a BMW, or a Benz, right? All I hear from uneducated people is how unreliable domestics are, at the same time their brand new C230 has been at the dealer 5 times in the last 6 months.

HA! thats what you think. Just wait till one of those uncountless sensors goes out in your import.....awesome....and pricey...have fun though. Ur dads just afraid maybe he would want to drive it. Or that you would race in it. one of those.

thats cool, i wasnt tryin to piss u off if i did, but heres something to consider... domestic cars have actually been more reliable than european cars in recent years, and thats proven by tests and everything. just a lil info

well you responded to my post about having a honda prelude talking about european cars so i was kinda confused, everyone knows european cars are peices of shit except for high end German cars, which if they do however break are going to cost a shitload, and will probably have to be fixed at their dealership :(

oh, well i didnt mean to confuse you i was just pointing out that stat... tell you what though i think the ford cars in particular are getting a lot better just in the last year or two... the gm cars arent going anywhere though. i think there sales are going to start to show it. they're stuck on old technology over there at gm, and most of their sports cars dont look right.

My 02 cents the 4v are not slugs. I have a 98 Cobra and it runs fine. Not a 12 second car but very easy to put there
