What si the difference between the b16a1 and the b16a2?

B16A1's are preOBD, have a cable tranny, put out 158hp@7600rpm and 112lbs-ft@7000rpm of torque...
B16A2's are OBD1 (except the ones from the 99-00 Civic Si which are OBD2), have a hydro tranny, puts out 168hp@7800rpm and 116lbs-ft@5200rpm of torque...
Theres other slight differences, but these are the main ones...
Basically, the easier one to swap into an EF chasis, is the B16A1, because the chasis is preOBD and have a cable tranny...

Kindof wrong! B16A2's are found only in 99-00 Civic Si USDM. They are rated at 160hp, they have one type of tranny, hydro, non-lsd. if i remember correctly a 4.40 F/D ratio. B16a1's are found in JDM Integra's, They come stock with a s1 tranny, non-lsd(not an option), super short gearing. The a1 is obd-0, while the a2 is obd-2b.

I can assure you that the superhondas website is wrong. I have pulled a SiR B16a motor out of a front clip, And i am 100% positive that it didnt say b16a1, so the people that posted that are obviousley wrong!
Your links arent really crediable. All i am trying to say is a B16a2 is not the same as a b16a Gen 2. Compare it. A USDM 99-00 civic si motor is not equal to a SiR-II motor! Bottom Line!

But the B16A g2 is also commonly reffered to as the B16A2, and it was before the engine stamped 'B16A2' was dropped into the first ever USDM 99 Civic Si... That was my point... WTF are you talking about? Im not saying to just 'throw a number on there'... Im telling you its commonly done by the Honda community, and has been for years... The B16A1 is a prime example, there is in fact no JDM engine stamped 'B16A1' (this is because JDM engines DO NOT HAVE A 5th CHARACTER ON THE STAMP), it is stamped simply 'B16A', when the second gen of that very engine came out, it too was stamped only 'B16A', ppl called it the 'B16A2', this was done so you could tell the difference between the 2 generations of engines... And when Honda introduced the engine actually stamped 'B16A2' it caused exactly the miscommunication we are experiencing now... Im the newb, when Im telling you pre 99 info that you obviously dont know about? :screwy:

What is with the arguing up in here? The sad truth is that Exempt is right. The majority of people do refer to the SiRII engines as the B16a2 and the SiR as the B16a1. Anyone who knows any better knows the truth. And we're the ones who have to deal with the confusion; when trying to decipher what the hell engine people are talking about. I'm surprised you haven't noticed it on this forum alone. I see people making those mistakes every day. Time to move on and let it go...damn.

I have in B16A2 engine from honda civic 93' VTI VTEC, OBD1 and on the engine it says B16A2 and it's almost the same as B16A2 that comes out 96'-99' had bouth engine at home there's a slight diference in electronic OBD2 but that can be fixed...
So this is first time i ever heard of B16A gen2 very weird thing !

ok listen to this i had a b16a1 and blow the motor in my 89 hb
now i order a b16a again but got a b16a2 and i didnt know until i put it in the car when i did i had to change the fuel injector and rails and the distripuator to and it is obd0 but i have a code for my fuel injectors and coolant sensor plus it only gos up to 7000 rpm and in my ecu i got a spoon computer chip before it use to go up to 8500 rpm
