I'm not expert, but it sounds like there some sort of signal going to the amps from the head unit that shouldn't be going... it could be because of a loose wire or a bad capacitor or something... If it's possible, you could try swapping another head unit in, from like a friend or something, and see if it still happens.

sounds like a bad headunit ground

i get the same thing but it is not a pop it is a thump. it doesn't sound weird, just a light bass hit every time i turn the volume to zero or hit eject. when i turn my q bass (precision power amp) down it goes away. dont think im hurting the subs. its not distorted, just a little thump.

I just remembered that my computer speakers (Logitech z-560s) do the exact same thing every single time my little refridgerator I have in my room turns on. I support the bad ground hypothesis. You can probably get a battery isolator or low resistance diode from radio shack or something to make it so voltage doesn't come back in through the ground wire.

Pop noise can come from anything. I just sold a local a new 2400d Directed amp and CompX speakers. He called up stated about the same thing but only if he turned the gain up. Well, ended up being a bad stereo. I threw in my $60 Pioneer unit and it sounded awsome.

probably a bad head unit ground, if not that, then a bad amp ground
also poncho, what do u think of the JVC KD-LH810?
im thinking of getting it to replace my pioneer
are jvc decks reliable? and how does the random feature work? does it go to a random feature every time u press next song, or do you got to wait til the song ends? thx

My panasonic deck's random song feature picks a new random song whenever you tell it change songs, either next or previous, and when a song ends. How else would a random song feature work?
edit... I realized that sounded sarcastic, and I didn't mean for it to. I'm just curious how other companies would change a basic feature like that.

o no its ok, well i've owned many decks, and heres how the random features work
Alpine -> press next song, you'll get a random song, go back, and it goes to the beginning of the song you're in, works best for me
pioneer/eclipse/clarion -> press next song, it actually goes to the next song instead of playing a random song, you need to wait til the current song, THEN i'll play a random song
i tested sony's random, and it takes forever, it actually starts shuffling from a very high #, and makes it way down until it hits the # of songs you have, it takes forever, but it is random nonetheless
if panasonics decks are like that, i might want to take a look at some

I really like JVC. They kinda sucked about 5-10 years ago but now have some nice heads. I love the KDSH-99 in my Libby. It has so many audio controls that let me really tailor the music.
..TheLH810? Not sure. I haven't sold it nor ordered it. Mostly I wholesale stereos to car dealers. They only want the cheapest so I can get Pioneer stuff much cheaper.
The random works either way. If it randomly hits a song you do not like, press next and it will randomly go to another.

oh yeah, and on an MP3/WMA disk, when you group a songs into a folder, the panasonic can play random songs from just that folder... it's really nice when I have different groups of people in the car :) It's also got a 7 band equalizer with like 6 presets for rock, pop, flat, vocal, jazz and club or something. They sound pretty good to start, and adjusting it a little makes it sound even better. The only thing I wish it would do is a really short fade into and out of songs, like when you first turn on the car, or hit next. Just so it's not jarring to listen to. Winamp on my computer does that.
