I want to install a set of headers and electric cutouts on my 1997 yukon gt. I would like to install these before the cats but there are what i think to be OBD II senors before the cat and after it. does anyone know a way to disable these so that i can run open headers?

Hi,
do you mean O2 (oxygen) sensors? What are electric cutouts? Does 'open headers' mean taking the cats out?
If you do this you will throw the engine management computer for a loop as it will not know, what to do anymore.
Some people who have a supercharger will upgrade the stock cats with free flow ones, together with the rest of the exhaust system. This is to adjust to the significantly higher amount of fuel burnt, producing a lot more exhaust gases.
If you do not have a supercharger then you will be fine leaving the cats alone.

open headers mean straight headers and nothing else.
"Electric cutouts" are setup so you can flip a switch (the "electrical" part) and bypass the complete exhaust system....and just run the headers alone. If that makes any sense.
The vehicle will still run with the o2 sensors hooked up and the straight headers, but it will probably run like crap.
Why would you do this? You won't gain any power. The only time you'd want something like this is if you had a turbo charger...and wanted no backpressure from the exhaust. Otherwise, you'll most likely loose a LOT of power and torque.

Thanks for the explanation.
Seems like this is done to create more sound effects? Kind of like some motorcyclists who clean out their exhausts to make sure that I wake up when they rattle by my house at 2 AM?
