how does V6 sound with flowmaster

I drive a 94 shortwide with a 4.3L V6. Does anyone else have a similar truck with a flowmaster or similar aftermarket exhaust, and if so, does it sound good, or more like a bumble-bee. I already know your answer to my next comment, but my friend had a 93 ford with a V6 and I think it was a 40 series flowmaster, but it sounded unnecessarily like a bumble bee. I would like to put a 30 or 40 series flow on my truck, but can't afford to not like it.

Hi,I know a guy w/ a 98 4.3 V6 p/u flow master exhaust system. He thinks it sounds good.I dont really think so,bumble bee in a tin can type sound.I thought it kinda sounded more like a V10.But hey some people like that.Maybe its like an aquired taste or people just like there stuff to be loud. The closest I've ever heard a 4.3 sound like a V8 was in high school a guy's muffler (maybe a glasspack) was hollowed and no tail pipe.

try straight pipes lol. put a racing cam in there for good measure to get that badass lopey idle that drives them mustang drivers crazy when the extra power from the cam lets you kill their stock v6 stang lol. im sure that the cam would beef up the sound a lot to sound a lot more like a bigger engine. it cant be that bad anyways, a friend of mine has a 305 v8 which is the equivalent to a 5.0 and it sounds pretty badass, so a 4.6 cant be that bad. o by the way, i wouldnt have straight pipes if i was you, so scratch that suggestion i made earlier in this post. the cops will have a lot of fun with the extra doughnuts and coffee that your tickets would provide (sry cops reading this im just jokin dont freak out on me lol). anyways, although i have never seen any proof of this occuring, i have heard from a lot of people that having very little backpressure will eventually burn up your exhaust valves. i have no idea if this is true though.

Go here:

Copy a track to a CD or tape, and crank your stereo! PA Speakers work even better. JK!

Hey,
I have a 92 4.3 with a 40 series flowmaster duel exhaust. I think that the overall sound of it is pretty good, fairly deep. It is very quiet though. If you are looking for really loud sound, you will not get it no matter what you do to your 4.3. If you are just looking for good sound, however, go with the flowmaster.

Hey,
what does that mean? are you serious or joking, and if serious, how much difference would it make?

I personally have a '98 4.3L v-6. I think I have a Flo-Pro (Flow Master knock off) on it. I don't know how people are hearing "bumble bees". My truck has a low rumble at idle that has made many think I had a V-8!! It deffinantly sounds mean, not like a damn pissed off bumble bee, especially when I get up on it. Hell, I've seen old ladies hit thier brakes and move off the road when I gun it!! No b.s.!! Like I said, I'm not sure what kind of muffler is on it cause it was on there when I bought it but when I changed my cat. conv. (nothing special, just stock) I think I remember seeing "Flo-Pro" stamped on it.

what i mean by a lopey cam is a cam that has a higher lift on it and it opens the valves farther and longer im assuming also. you can tell when someone is running a cam like this because the engine sounds like it is sputtering and dieing and stuff when in reality it is making far more power than stock.

you know what im talkin about lol that awesome lopey idle... kinda like... i dunno... blub blub blub blub or something. it sounds like heaven. i know a kid that has a 350 with the stock cam in it and you can barely even hear it at idle. if he threw a cam in there that was better, then you could hear it a few blocks away just sittin at a stoplight or something.

it definately helps out. a friend of mine has a racing cam in a 454 and you cant even hear yourself think even when ur sittin at a red light.

o btw... the only bad thing about the better cams is that they really eat a lot of gas...

where could I find a cam to fit my truck? Or do they make cams for this size engine?

you could get one at autozone for under 200 bucks and it comes with all the stuff you need with it

What other effects will a lopey cam have? like help or hurt hp and mpg? How hard are they to install? how much difference in sound, noise wise, will it make for this kind of engine? Thanks

I have it on my 4.3L .
50 series delta flow 3 chamber single inlet and outlet with a 3 inch pipe. Sounds better with one pipe not two.

hey man ya dont need to buy a cam and waist your money. new cams are more for V8s plus good luck trying to get it smogged. i have a 94 C1500 single cab with a 4.3 in it so we have the same truck. now everyone says "damn thats a nice sound, what size V8 is that" nowthe secret to get your V6 sounding like an 8 is buy a 40 serise all original and get a 3" cat-back system my cat is 3" open and out it is RIGHT at the exit of the Y pipe then goes about2 feet right into the Flowmaster the goes about 3 feet then! (heres the secret) goes from the 3" to 2½" to the end. it will sound like a V8. from the inside of my truck it sounds good then let someone else drive by you and listen. it cost about 190 bucks but its worth every penny. im saving up to get some headers and open up my Y-pipes get more deep and throuhty out of my truck. well there you go my secret to you. oh and all those other guys that posted sorry but a V6 acts totaly differnt than an 8 but those are all good suggestions for an 8. hope ya like it.

Try to listen to a 4.3 with a Gibson muffler on it. This company's whole line of exhaust products is made specifically for trucks, SUVs and RVs.

Some people prefer Flowmaster, others Gibson. That's why they make chocolate and vanilla ice cream!

If u change your cam u must change the valve springs to match the cam or u will get valve float at high rpms.
