oily spark plugs

the spark plugs in my 2000 cav have been completley covered in oil for some time now. Im not talking about just a little bit of oil either. When i took them out a couple months ago they were completely soaked and dripping with oil and oil was practicaly leaking out of the chamber. The oil level is also severly dropping in my car. I took it up to a shop and they said it was a blown valve cover gasket and they replaced it. But now its about a month later and they are still soaked in oil. Nothing has improved at all. I feel my car misfiring pretty much everytime i drive it. Could the shop have just ripped me off and its really something more serious than just the gasket? If you have any ideas please respond.

Seems to me, either the plugs haven't been torqued to the proper tightness; or indeed the valve cover gasket job was a poor one. These things have a specific bolting order, as well as a torque spec. Look for oil running from the gasket seal area, after a good cleaning of course. Is there actually a way for oil to get past the rings and into the plug wells like this? I assumed the orig poster meant oil in the plug wells. If indeed the electrodes proper are oiled and misfiring then I too would concur with your assumption. a compression test on each cyl would verify this.

i dont see how a leaky valve cover gasket would soak plugs???


edit/// is the oil in the holes where they bolt up or when u take the plugs out are the tips covered??
