I have a 92 S10 blazer 4.3L W 4x4 CPI...Its been doin good since I put a fuel filter, starter and I cleaned the IAC and IAT..NOW its back to not idlin at a stop and I have cold start..now when I go to start for first time it'll start like a firecracker! It was runnin great this mornin until the SES light came on..I gets to where I'm goin shut it off and restarted it and the SES light is off..I did the paper clip trick to get the codes..I got 4 flashes then 5 flashes..is this 45 or 4 and 5? I also had a smell comin out of vents(when in P idlin) that was like a sulfur or antifreeze smell like its hot..but its not hot.. Injectors? I HOPE NOT!!

It is code 45, which is o2 sensor indicating rich fuel. You should check your evap canister, which is probably located under your air cleaner housing. Split hoses, bad purge valve, disconnected hoses, cracked housing etc. will cause this. Determine the condition of these items and replace as needed. Check the canister,if fuel is leaking from it, replace it. There is also a test you can try to see if air passes thru, but you need a hand pump. The test is in the haynes book in the emissions control systems. You may also have to replace ( I would ) your O2 sensor AFTER checking / repairing /replacing the evap. canister. As for the odor coming thru vents, this condition causes gasoline odors to be smelled. You may want to check and make sure that the floorboard area on pass. side of vehicle is dry. A wet area could be the result of another common problem on old Blazers, the dreaded heater core.

If the smell you are talking about is gas, that means that the oxygen sensor is doing it's job and detected it. Your sensor may be fine.

Crystal, before you replace that sensor, don't forget to check out the canister. You gotta repair the problem before you replace the sensor, or it will happen again. Also, if you decide to replace the sensor, pull your ECM fuses with the key in the run position to clear the codes. Pulling the neg. battery cable will do this also, and let it sit 5 min or so before re-connecting. Also, remember that you have reset your idle by clearing the ecm, so put in in D with foot on brake and allow it to re-learn the idle, especially since you have hopefully corrected the rich mixture condition.

I'm not gettin a gas smell..its a sulfur like smell as if a battery would give..but I have a new battery...I've done the disconnectin of battery with whatever I'm into...you taught me that on here blazer94..lol..plus the paper clip..that was perdy darn cool. It seems like everytime I repair or clean stuff on my baby it runs great! THEN I'm right back at square one..drivin me crazy! I'll check my canister...thanks

well, look at it this way: Your only helping your baby out. It seems that way with my baby, too, but i just love her, and I enjoy doing the work to help her out. Plus, the knowlege on these fourms is great, I've learned ALOT of stuff here, and some of these folks are pretty incredible to take the time to share what they know / learned.

This is NOT an O2 sensor problem, his cpi injector has ruptured and now needs replacement.

Sorry, but this is your problem.

Remove your EGR valve and check for carbon keeping the pintle open.

Please calm down....Nothing will ever be fixed when pissed off. ;)

The EGR valve is directly under where the air intake connects to the engine.

I have some sorta sensor(or somthin with wires comin outta it) on the lower part of the drivers side of the engine block..is this a knock sensor? Do I even have a knock sensor on my 92 S10 blazer 4x4 4.3 W CPI? Whatever it is/was it had like a plastic coverin with a couple wires comin outta it and the plastic coverin crumbled in my fingers when I went to clean the grim off it..:disappoin...my blazer is not turnin over..it sounds as if its flooded...I took my air cleaner assembly off and had the smell of gas..thanks again

that should be your knock sensor. Have you checked the EGR, cleaned it, and replaced with a new gasket? This is assuming that you did.
If you are smelling fuel, did you check your evap canister? if you did, and the lines and canister are good and no fuel is dripping, than check under your plenum ( the cover with VORTEC written on it), for the golden cleanliness of a leaking regulator, nut kit ( fuel line ) or injector assembly. The inside of the intake manifold should be black and dirty, not clean looking. In order to do this, you have to take a lot of sensors, etc off, but it is the only way to check it. Refer to chapt. 4 in your Haynes book for your blazer. Also, I believe that you recently replace your fuel filter. Did you ever check the fuel pressure?

Ok on ur reply...I've been workin on her all afternoon...I decided to check the fuse box/block with my test light..they all lit up except for the crank one (3amps) but the fuse is good...I remember a year ago when I had 2 alternators put in within a week..that the mechanic at the time asked me why there was a wire from the lighter fuse(30amp) to where ever he said..I told him I have no ideal..must of been from the other owner..so he took it out and said I didn't need this wire..well its been runnin like crap ever since..so I took a wire and put it in the 30amp and the other end in the crank fuse spot..and she started right up!! Scared the shit out of me!! knowin the key was still in acces position..she idled like a champ..so now I'm really stumped with this..thanks
