The fuel filter is normally in the fuel line between the fuel pump & carburetor. Sometimes people will put them in line between the frame rail & front of the engine or between the fuel tank & frame rail. The problem sounds more like a carb adjustment issue.

Yea I was thinking the same thing but I wanted to cover all bases just in case it was something simple like a clogged filter. But I will take a look at the fuel mixture.

Also check the choke circuit. If it starts right up when cold but stalls when warm and running rich, the choke wire could be disconnected/broken/hooked up wrong, or the choke oout of adjustment.

Hi sounds like you need to remove the idle jet that is on the side of the carb { the same side the choke element is on} and take air and blow out the jet. you will notice when you remove it from the carb that the tip will be stopped up causing all your problems.
thanks in advance
