So it's finally official. Though June seems way too early to me. I think this date might be pushed back. It was just November '04 when hirofkd told me that some modelers saw Fujimi engineers taking measurements and pics of 550's in the Ferrari Museum in Japan. I don't know how long it takes to go from measurements to a final kit, but 8 months seems short. At that point, hirofkd and I speculated late 2005 before we see a kit. I'm sure we'll see some type of prototype at Shizuoka, hopefully. I'm sure this kit is a big deal for Fujimi, so I expect them to show it off.

Fujimi only does a near full detail kit when they have to, like the Porsche 917 which has a lot of exposed drivetrain.

You can probably put the Fujimi Maranello body on a Bburago chassis if you want to whip up a full detail model.

For the past 5 months, I've been dying to share this info, but without confirmation, I couldn't. It was only this Tuesday, when I received a second information (actually it's Hobby Search's mailing list) about an all-new Ferrari kit from Fujimi.

This is indeed a great announcement. And the Nissan March kit is a welcome surprise, too. I thought it was illogical to release the Mitsubishi Colt, instead of the much more popular Nissan compact, but I guess it was just a labor shortage issue or something.

Hirofkd,

Thanks! You always have reliable info regarding hobby news from Japan.

Instead of an SLR, I'd rather see an SL55 or any variants, like the SL500, SL65, SL600

I'm not sure, but i think that 575m and 612 Scaglietti share a basic engine, so better kitbash project would be installing revell 612 engine on a fujimi 575m

www.scaleproduction.de already offers Luc Alphand decals for the 550, I´m sure later this year there will be etch-parts, cage, spoilers etc. available.

the engine differs from the 550 to the 575. code number 575, refers to its increase in engine displacement from 5500 cc to around 5750 cc, i believe.

The 550 has a narrow indention in the top of the bumper for your hand to lift the trunk lid, the 575 has an indention which is as wide as the trunk lid where it meets the bumper.

Okay, if Fujimi is listening...

How 'bout making the 550 Barchetta and the 575M Superamerica from this kit. Seeing lots of pics of the Superamerica has changed my opinion on it...it's cool.

And while they're at it, Murcielago and Gallardo Spyders!

I'd rather have the 456M than the 612 Scag...lietti. That car just doesn't look right for a modern Ferrari. Sad, really.

It's almost illogical not to release the Barchetta and Super America, so I'd say, the announcement in the fall hobby show, and the actual product in Feb 2006, how does it sound?

As for the 2+2 Ferraris, the 456 is certainly nice, but from what I hear, the Scaglietti's face follows the common theme for the next decade Ferraris and the Scaglietti is the first of its kind. Every time Ferrari radically changes its design theme, everyone reacts negatively (like the ugly TR512 was a hint for the better-looking 550/575), I think the new design will eventually grow.
