About 5 or 6 days ago, i started restoration on my truck by removing the box and then driving my truck back to my house. There was rain on the road and it naturally spun the tires easily with the posi rearend. THE BRAKES SEEMED PERFECTLY NORMAL.

Flash forward a few days... i get my dinner break at work and decide to try some power braking even though its still raining so it would be completely easy anyways even with the box if i had it on there. i go behind this grocery store in the parking lot and do a pretty smokey power brake burnout. i notice after driving a few blocks that it is pulling to the right pretty bad when i use the brakes. i stop and try to do a power brake to see whats going on, and the right rear brake is on really hard and even the left wheel will start spinning and it tries to make the right one spin too but it would just kinda jerk a few times because the brakes are so much harder on that side. a few later attempts work better when i use the brakes less. so i know its not the rearend.

also when i try to stop now at low speeds, the truck lurches to the right from the rear right brake grabbing so hard. if im driving down the road and i use the brakes even at normal amounts, the rear right tire will lock up and skid. its confusing the heck outta me and i think it has something to do with that power brake i did before.

what do you all think could be the problem?

Pull off the tire and brake drum and check for either brake fluid or gear oil on the brake shoes. These will both cause grabbing and lockup.

well, either the right is grabbing hard, or the left isn't working right anymore. Its possible that something gave out on the left side while power braking. Coulf be a spring or the shoe itself could have been damaged. Powerbraking creates a helluva lot of heat and could have cracked the friction material and broke some off. Or it could be the wheel cyl. is jammed up. This would create more pressure on the right side. The only way to know for sure is put it up and look at each drum.

yeah im in the process of restoring the truck, and since the box is off anyways, i figure what the hey ill go ahead and change the pads on the brakes and stuff and ill have my dad do the drum brakes on the rear because i have no idea how they work. apparently he says they even are designed to adjust themselves automatically when the brakes are applied when moving in reverse to compensate for pad wear... that is way over my head lol
