installing newer 4.3 with no egr system

I have a 97 s10 blazer 4x4 with a blown engine. I purchaced a newer year engine and it has no egr system. Can I install this the way it is without having it affect the computer? Or do i have to put on my old intake manifold and exaust manifold? The rest of the engine is compatable (all the wiring and plug ends are the same.)

As a test (off road only of course so as not to break any emissions laws)
Mount the '97 EGR valve some where under the hood and plug it in to the electrical connector. The computer can operate the EGR and check it's condition as normal, It just won't be actually flowing any exhaust. It may keep the computer satisfied.

What year of engine did you get?

I was told it was for a 98-99. This is a brand new, complete, factory engine that has never been installed. Engine code W6Z4UHC

You will probably have to use a 1998-99 engine.

There is an EGR system in that engine, it is just integrated into the block.

I've heard on s10 forums that all the blocks are identical, and that there is no EGR on those engines at all.

All 4.3L blocks are the same? Not a chance, maybe equivelent years, but some years see some changes.

98s have EGR valves. They are mounted on the intake, in front of the throttle body, and right beside the goose neck where the upper radiator hose enters the engine.

You sure you don't mean the PCV valve?

PCV valve is on the driverside valve cover.

I know for a fact that it is the EGR valve because before I removed it to clean it I bought an EGR valve gasket from NAPA and it fit perfectly.

Was just checking for sure.

If I get a chance, I'll take a picture of it later. Posting pics are a PITA. The digital camera is connected to the desktop PC. I always use my laptop, so when I want to post a pic I have to download it on the desktop pc then store it on a jump drive, then load it on my laptop, then upload it to a image hosting site. I really need to buy another camera or just an extra dock. :)

No need.

I was just making sure you think he was talking about the PCV system.

Sometimes they are mistaken by mistake.

It would be hard to mistake them on the 98s, they have a very large EGR valve with an electrically controlled pintle, unlike the earlier vacuum controlled ones.

Honestly, just stop going on about it.

Everything is fine.

:) I'm not trying to be an ass, I wasn't arguing or anything, I was just clarifying. If someone wants to clean theirs, they will know where it is.
I went out and took a pic, here it is:

Ok, Blazee, enough, really, I didn't need proof, I believe you.

Talk about overdoing it bro.

I went ahead and posted the pic so others would know what and where the EGR was.
