Body Lifts

I have been thinking about raising my stock '93 YJ I6, 5 speed 4x4 rig. I know that suspension lifts are quick and easy. Throw in some new leaf springs, some new shocks. Costs vary from $400 (magazine) to $800 from a local 4x4 shop. But what about body lift kits as well. How hard is it to raise a body up an inch or 2? I see body lift kits for like $100 with those spacers in magazines. Would it be better to do a combo type deal, get like a 3-4" suspension lift, then get a 1" body lift. What do you think. I have to get my rig ready for mudding and offroading. For a beginner should I go with 31" tires, 33" or 36. Money is somewhat of an obstacle. But I can buy 33" tires and rims for like $600 usd (el cheapo from mag)

I am also selling it (in the next year or 2), but I want to do some off-roading before I sell it. What is a good re-sale point of view on jacking a rig up?

I will be installing some new wheel flares, hitch mount winch, grill, installing a front and rear hitch, for the winch (front), and a trailer (back), snorkel, k&n air filteration system.

For a rig like that, on a budget, I recomend a 2 inch body lift and 1 1/2 in shackles. That way you won't be in for more than $300 in parts and you can buy a better wheels and tires. You'll have plenty of room for 33's You don't even have to worry about brake lines and dropping the t-case.

What is the hockey puck trick for lift, where do I put em, what do I do?

The "pucks" put space between the frame and the body which moves the wheel wells up higher. The suspension says in place, the only difference will be the shifter will be lower to the floor because the body is further away from the tranny and t-case. I'd leave that to a professional to install. You'll basically be lifting the body off the frame

lifting the body like that is not that hard to do as long as you have a good floor jack and a nice area, hopefully a in-closed shop to work on it. All you have to do is loosen the mounts for one side and and jack that side of the body up. Then remove the mounts one at a time and replace each one as you go. then let the body down and do the next side. Then come back in and tighten every thing down to specs and you will be fine. it takes a little time but can be easily done with a couple friends on a sunday afternoon.
