Absolutely not. Each type of engine has a certain type of transmission. Theres the simple explination.

is it as clear cut as like chevy engines have to have a chevy tranny.... the reason i an asking is i want to put a chevy small block on a porche tranny so i can have a transaxle tranny....

Most of the time its matched by auto group ( GM cars, Ford/Lincon/Merc, ect ect) then broke down by engine type and differnt classes. Rarely, and very rarely can you intermix and I'v never heard of nor seen a chevy to porche mix. You could have a custom bell housing made and adapter plates and such, but a porche tranny is simply not going to withhold the power of a built small block, or even a stock one in most cases. If you solely looking for a transaxel chevy has quiet a few possabilities though that would probably be more appropriate and suitable.
