Acclaim DOA

I just bought a 93 4cyl Acclaim for a second Mail Car. The guy I bought it from told me he'd just replaced the rotor button a couple of months ago. After several days the car stopped and inspection showed the rotor had again come off. This has happend twice more. It does appear the distributor has some play. But before I could replace the distributor it stopped again. This time the rotor had not come off but I'm getting no fire. Could the rotor's coming off and bouncing around in the cap have fractured something in the module inside the distributor? Or is there something common that I'm over looking. I'm not showing fire at either terminal on the coil. No fuses are blown in the main box though none are marked with anything that would look like the controled fire to the ignition. Any input would be appreciated.

I figured I was going to need another distributor anyway. Throwing rotor buttons can't be a gental thing. I picked a distributor up out of a salvage yard. The module came with it. It doesn't when you buy one from a parts store. I tried to crank the car before R&R the dist. Wouldn't crank. Replaced dist and it fired right off. Suppose the rotor bouncing around inside the cap fractured something in the module?

actually, that module is a hall-effect sensor and it can get damaged easily by worn bearings in the distributor or an improperly seated rotor, like what you had.
