It all depends on the year.
The 98 and 98.5 (E0 and E1) have 195hp. The 99 has 200hp with a compression ratio of 10:1. The 00 also has 200hp, but the engine is 50cc smaller. In order to get the same hp reading, the compression ratio was raised to 10.25:1.
Hope this helps, I know you posted this a while back, but better late then never, right? ;)

I'll never understand why the didn't toss this engine into the Cougar. It had the looks but the motor was a little under powered. :(
The Contour SVT is a pretty nice car.

Actually, the 2.5 V6 is the same in the Cougar and CSVT. The CSVT just has more engine mods. The 2.5 V6 in the Cougar is the same as the 2.5 V6 in the newer Contour SE. I would agree though, 170hp for that 2.5 V6 isn't nearly enough for the Cougar. I like my 200hp CSVT.
Thanks.

That does sound nice... mine is a bit over 200hp now, so I can live with that. I'm still waiting to see what type of 2003 models come out. I want a new car :D

I think from what I have been reading, Mercury is supposed to be getting a version of the Mondeo soon. I just hope so, my first car was a Contour SVT '98, granted it wasn't a super speed demon it was fast.

the contour svt tested was 6.9 0-60 for 99-00 and 7.1 for the 98's
the 7.6 0-60 was fords conservative ratings:)

The 2000 contour SVT pushed out 200HP and 169lbs per ft. It had a 2.5 v-6. Scott, that is a 2.5 pushing out the same amount of power as your 3.8.:D It only weights about 3100lbs. So it will go.
Maybe now you should give it some respect.:finger:

hmm...i guess im just a little skeptical. assuming the mtx-75 has a drivetrain loss of 17.5%, that works out to be 205 fwhp (240hp). We have a guy on contour.org with a 2000 svt hp and is pretty much modded to the max without head work.
Some of his mods include: TRIPLE extrude honed upper intake manifold port matched to the an optimized LIM, optimized throttle body, msds port matched and optimized headers, under drive pulleys, tweecer fuel management, custom true dual exhaust....the list goes on. his dyno before msds headers, true dual exhaust, and tweecer was 192 fwhp.
his website can be seen here (http://www.contour.org/carprofile/carprofile.php?a=display&uid=400)
but if you can prove me wrong and show a dyno plot and ill believe you. :)

only vortech makes a sc kit for the contour/cougar. however, an eaton sc was used on cougar eliminator. twin turbos are not even remotely possible, lol! the street flight turbo kit is already a tight squeeze with a single turbo. have you even looked at the space underneath your hood?!

the svt and non svt V6 duratec engines are essentially the same. The duratec was originally designed by Porsche and Ford then took the design and "fordarized" if you will. The svt motor just got the extrude honed UIM and primary port heads, bumped compression, aggressive cams and tuning, quasi dual exhaust, etc. Yes, the svt motor is better than the non svt because of the extra 25-30 hp depending on which year. But the 3.0L duratec in the Taurus is better yet.

My kit is finished for the 2.5L V6. $4000 will get you 255FWH (Mustang dyno underload). And really not a tight sqeeze as you think. I'll post pics REAL soon. Car is getting a clutch and LSD put on right now.
