New Project - 1986 Corvette

I'm looking for some help on this one... It looks like I'm getting my dream car! Though it's not the ideal year, dreamers can't be choosers. It's a red 1986 Vette, with an automatic that's been parked in someone's yard for the better part of the last 10yrs. Anyway, I'm going to inspect and assess the vehicle this weekend and am looking for some advice on what specifically to look for, bad and good too I guess.
Info: I have been told it has a blown drive shaft but was started and running occasionally for the first couple of years it was parked. Upon first VERY brief inspection (trespassing :evillol: ), body was flawless but paint a little rough (uncovered). The car was blocked up with the tires off the ground. Interior was rough, due to poor (no) ventilation but door open easily and closed VERY nice and tightly.

Any advice on things to inspect pre-purchasing? Deal breakers?
Once I get it home, where do I start?

Does it run? Sounds like a fun project. I have an 84. These things handle like their on rails.

Not yet...but I pulled the plugs (inserted mystery oil), took off the belt and was able to turn the the crank shaft. I decided to buy it despite the lack of responses/feedback from this thread. It's MUCH nicer looking now that I've power washed it and I'm very excited to know the engine is not frozen! :bananasmi

Kool. Welcome to the family. Hope it turns out for ya. I am going to rebuild my motor too. I am looking for 400HP and 400 FtLbs of TQ. Should be a fun street pounder. I should be running 12's with it.

Looking to get 400hp out of the stock block? Does yours have the same L98 as mine? You'll have to let me know how that turns out! Should be one hell of a beast! :evillol:

PS - What type of shop manual(s) do you have/recommend?

Mine actually has an L83 w/ the crossfire. It is a nice torquer but runs out of steam around 4k RPM. I am probably going to put a Holley SysteMax II kit on it. It comes with the heads, cam, lifters, intake manifold, push rods, timing set, and assembly lube. I will get my bottom end rebuilt my a shop hear here. Our blocks should be the same.

I would pick up a Haynes manual. I like mine.

My dad has an 87 convertible and it handles like none other, great find i'd say... if you need any parts i'd say check out MidAmerica Motorworks @ www.mamotorworks.com . Really great parts for every part of the car, if you've got money i mean cuz Corvette parts aren't cheap
